having bitch outs and getting off topic

should this be done through the e-mail system between the two parties (two recent examples come to mind) or does it add to the fun of the msg board? i think it's funny at first but bogs down responces that are thoughtful..

It depends. Once the bitch out gets to the level of just people posting "Fuck off" and the other person preening and loads of shouty behavior, then yeah, that doesn't belong in public. If it is still related to the thread, however nasty, I don't think it's necessarily something that should be taken away though.

How many threads do we have now tangentially related to that rap/rock thread? ;)

I won't bother to argue incessantly like a freak again. I'm not really upset with anyone. I believe the first name-calling, attacking and slandering was directed at me. Remember?

Well, I suppose I could've just said "fuck off" after the first slander to my "person". But, that usually means you're copping out. >preens<

I guess if I have a point, from now on, I must sum it up entirely water-tight with no room for assumptions in the first go and then ignore whatever comments may arise.

i apoligise. i tried for a very long time to be purely analytical about, um, that guys' repeated comments about the music i love more than any other music, but pure volume of idiocy weighed out over my own self-control. i have officially sworn off any response to it. very sorry.

That's okay. Let's be friends. Shake? I can't think of any music I'd actually fight for, unfortunately. It must be nice to really identify with something so much. Maybe I should start hanging around the "I hate music" section more? I don't actually read that very much. Hmmm. She seems funny, though.

To answer Kevin, yes it's a good idea to take to e-mail. Unfortunately some people's e-mails turn out not to be real or are described as 'mailbox full'.

Again, in future fake e-mail addresses will be grounds for message deletion. Sorry to all you creative e-mail types.

Tom, Friday, 27 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Neuromancer" is "mailbox full", incidentally ...

The whole episode's been rather depressing I think.

Guy, Friday, 27 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I believe that's who Tom was referring to, yes, Robin ;)

I don't find it depressing, I find it hilarious. If a thread goes out of control and you don't like it, do what I do: stop reading it. It's unfortunate that it has to come to that but it has to come to that whenever you get a large group of people posting in the anonymity of the internet. It's nowhere near as awful as Usenet, though on the other hand on Usenet you CAN filter out people you don't want to read, which makes it a little easier.

I too found the whole thing deeply unpleasant. Not "hilarious" at all, I'm afraid.

Apparantly, something was dreadfully wrong with the antisocial.com address. I haven't received any new messages since 3/1. It also says that my inbox is only 34% full. Hotmail is more reliable, so from now on, I will post with this address. I really did not think email applied since the moderators had said there are no longer emails being sent. This is why I did not think it would matter to use such joking addresses as yourpal@iloveyou.com.

Please email me at the following address if you want to discuss anything. Thanks.

Sure, as long as the quarreling is well written, I love to read it (and engage in it - see "Replacements: Classic or Dud?"). A lot of times its more exciting than reading about another Thom Yorke-as- genius or whether or not Coldplay are national heroes yet. As long as its not simple name calling, spar on, that's what its all about! Its fun to watch 'em go at it.

Email addresses still matter because they are our (as in Tom, Nicole, and I) only way of contacting people privately to say, hey, don't be a cockfarmer.

Josh (ILM Moderator), Friday, 27 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So you're saying there's something wrong with being a "cockfarmer"? I THOUGHT THIS WAS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMUNITY!
