despite the voice

Are there any bands you like/love despite hating the singer's voice?

Every time I listen to D.I. Go Pop I want to get Ian an autotuner and singing lessons.

And it's still one of my favorite albums.

No...that's for bands where you *can't* get past the voice. This is for the ones where you *can*.

Jim O'Rourke's Eureka. I can juuuust get past the voice.

Edwyn Collins sounds a lot like Wacko from Animaniacs on those early Orange Juice records. It doesn't annoy me that much though.

The Pastels. Any number of female-fronted C86 bands (I'm listening to Bubblegum Splash! now - woeful vocals but the music is so good...)

Used to love Roxy Music despite the vocals (always slightly unnerved me), now I love R.M. for the voice, too

Well then I have to transfer my Ian Curtis mention to this thread.

I wish the D.I. singer had tried to diverge a bit more from his idols' style. Nothing wrong with him per se, but he brings to mind a lot of synth bands I never liked.

Kurt Wagner doing falsetto.

Synth GOOD.

Doubtless to many folks' disdain, I always liked both the Mission and, yes, Marion (the rerecorded "Sleep" rocks, don't care what anyone says). But OH GOD! The singing! Especially that Jaime guy from Marion -- try to listen to the verses "Let's All Go Together" without wanting to kick him repeatedly.

Jeff Mangrum's (Neutral Milk Hotel) voice took a while to get over and I still don't like it, but I'm starting to feel it fits with the songs somehow.

I like my friends' band Slut 'Em Go despite the awful, barely audible, tuneless singing that they occasionally mar their epic prog- punk with.
