I was wondering today why none of Genesis's albums had reviews. fwiw the song reviews still exist. Some very enthusiastic person with a French name has written reviews of almost every early Genesis song.

what a disaster for Stephen Thomas Erlewine

I've noticed this too. The page formatting looks different as well.

bummed about this, cuz while they were erratic as hell, they were a GREAT pocket resource. hope it's just a temporary reshuffling of some sort...

I've also noticed this.

Why would they delete this? It's already been written.
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)
I guess if the album's dead, then album reviews must be as well.
― henry s, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 00:56 (sixteen years ago)
It's temporary -- related to changing the database platform.
― Andy K, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 01:03 (sixteen years ago)
It's weird because not every review is affected - I went to look some stuff up the other day and half of what I needed was there and half wasn't, seemingly at random.

oh hi there

This is interesting: The tracklisting for The Beatles (white album) currently shows only half of the songs (15 of 30), apparently taken at random, with sides 1, 2, 3 and 4 all represented:

If I could find that old "edit the White Album and make a single killer LP" thread, I'd look to see if those 15 represented anyone's ideal. (Or anyone's worst-imaginable, for that matter.)

Your search for Boards of Canada as an artist name or the title of an album or song did not have any matches.
― the late great, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 19:32 (eleven years ago)
so basically they're just not even trying to be a reference site anymore
― the late great, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 19:36 (eleven years ago)
concentrating on the what do you call it pitchfork format
i pretty much just use discogs now when i want to do a quick artist search. allmusic will forever remain in my heart, though, for introducing me to Chrome and tons of other great bands back in the late 90s/early 2000s.

One tries.

sad because they really had so many great reviews

had / have
try googling "boards of canada allmusic"
maybe their internal search is just broken at the moment?
― Brad C., Tuesday, 12 August 2014 21:11 (eleven years ago)
yeah, i haven't noticed the broken search function, cuz i always arrive thru google

i feel like the declining popularity of those listening stations at like barnes and noble (along o/c with buying music at barnes and noble) must have been allmusic's downfall. i appreciate what a beast it must be to run with esp. with the snazzy interface, but it's been so spotty for so long.

Allmusic was perfect for a long time as far as its design and functionality. Now it's cumbersome and full of annoying pop-up ads and videos, and it does seem to have lost a lot of content for some reason. I rely on Rateyourmusic more and more lately, which seems far better than Discogs.
― Fastnbulbous, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 21:56 (eleven years ago)
well, discogs is for buying/selling, RYM for evaluation. both pretty great on their own terms.
