Oh man how the hell did that "Judy in Disguise" sneak in this otherwise lovely list?

This movie looks really annoying.

myndbloom, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 05:29 (sixteen years ago)

the song i loved best when it appeared in this movie, but which isn't on the soundtrack, was francoise hardy's 'all over the world'.

estela, Wednesday, 25 November 2009 05:37 (sixteen years ago)

Why'd they change the title of this movie? The original is 1000x better.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 05:43 (sixteen years ago)

As much as it might annoy abbot, Judy in Disguise.

Based on the soundtrack it does look like a dull movie.

a fictitious pirate radio station broadcasting from a ship

Loosely based I believe on the actual one that did exist

The movie is appalling, in fact if it wasn't for Lesbian Vampire Killers it would be the worst British film of the year.
The Letter by the Box Tops however is sublime

Got to be the Kinks.

one year passes...

After the film's commercial and critical failure in the UK, it was re-edited and retitled Pirate Radio for release in the United States and Canada

I've never seen a film that had so many awful bits in but was basically alright, to the point that it was salvageable.

The characters were pretty good in most cases (except for KenBrannagh, not his fault)

Has anyone seen both versions? How much better is it now?

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 09:29 (fifteen years ago)

Well, I found a website that told me.

Much the same, just a bit shorter.

Mark G, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 10:05 (fifteen years ago)

Some website had that the 'deleted scenes' were actually good, and RCurtis' intro was very "ah we had to cut out loads of fantastic bits so as not to make the film too long, and we kept all the bits integral to the main plot. If we'd edited it the otherway, who knows maybe the film would have been, um, more, ah, successful?"

So, yeah, most of them were much better...

Mark G, Wednesday, 15 December 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, and another site had that there was a final scene after the credits (there is, it's nothing hardly), but I noticed a "Thanks to James Corden, Rich Fulton, etc" and I wondered why.

Yep, they are in the extras as cameo parts. (Another pirate ship DJs)

Mark G, Wednesday, 15 December 2010 09:58 (fifteen years ago)

This was awful and I have a soft spot for Curtis romcom nonsense. I think I may have actually cheered when the boat started sinking.
