is mj cole's 'crazy love' considered sugary? (probably not, it's more of a fructose kind of internal sweetness than a jube with visible granular sugar coating.) even so, i like it lots

"can't seem to make you mine" by the seeds.

Luv this queston.

"Sweeter Than Wine" is fabulous, but also consider:

Amira - My Desire (Dreem Teem Remix)
Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers (Sunship Remix)
Artful Dodger - Moving Too Fast
Valerie M - Tingles 2000 (Artful Dodger Remix)
Selena - Give It Up (X Men Remix)
Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate (duh!)
Mis-Teeq - All I Want (Sunship Remix)
Kristine Blonde - Love Shy (Club Asylum Remix)
B15 Project - Girls Like This
The Underdog Project - Summer Jam
K Warren - Coming Home

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers (Sunship Remix) owns this thread, but the B15 project girls like this comes close. also bump'n'flex's promises, if that counts?

gareth, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

96 tears - ? and the mysterions

The Underdog Project - Summer Jam

hehe, i'd forgotten about this. it wins because of the video.

minna, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers (Sunship Remix) owns this thread, but the B15 project girls like this comes close.

Not even close to being as good, but far more sugary: I, um, quite like that Victoria Beckham/Dane Bowers/True Steppers track. *ducks*

scott pl., Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Minna, I never saw the video for "Summer Jam", what was it like?

I also forgot to include David Howard's "U & I", which is one of the most amazing mixes of pure sugar and "oh fuck did you hear that beat?" ever.

Tim, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Summer Jam certainly. The garage element is utterly subordinate to the super-compressed and sheened and somewhat sickeningly seductive vocals.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You are talking about different kinds of "garage music". The Seeds and ? and the Mysterians by one side; Dreem Teem and MJ Cole by the other one.

salvador, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are they different?

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you kidding? Have you ever listened to The Seeds? Have you ever listened to The Dreem Teem? There are two musical genres called "garage". The 60's "garage rock" and an electronic sub-genre that is near to soul sounds.

salvador, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Salvadore, I think Sterling's making a different point about the two styles of music in question.

And anyway, the final part of your statement isn't really true Anyone who tells you uk garage is "near to soul sounds" is revisionist and has listened to "Battle" far too many times.\

Although that reminds me - Wookie's "What's Going On" is sho' nuff sugary.

Tim, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the video for 'summer jam' is a cross between beverly hills 90210 (pre 'the college years'), and one of those late night chat hotline ads.

minna, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, Tim, you're right. I just used the word "near to soul sound" to give an idea of the kind of music I was talking about. Of course, it's a simplification.

salvador, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

60s Garage used soul vocals and electronic guitars.
