"Goodbye Earl" for me, fairly easily.

I just remembered that this was the period of my life (roughly late '99 through early '01) when I was most detached from Hot 100 singles. Voted for “Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)” with considerable trepidation over Aaliyah and Toni Braxton.

Bloodhound Gang, “The Bad Touch” (Republic/Geffen) 3/18 (70)

btw "Goodbye Earl" is the song that finally made me quit listening to country radio at age 12

actually on second thought I'm voting for Aaliyah

Oh well, I'm voting Amel here, cause someone has to

"Whoa"is really underrated around these parts, too

Two surprises: 1. that Tracie Spencer was still charting in 2000, and 2) that Ying Yang Twins were already charting in 2000.

That was a minor comeback hit for Spencer, if I recall correctly.

but, yeah, it was a "whoa" moment when the singer of "This House" charted this decade.

"he wasn't man enough" is really underrated imo

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 09:50 (fourteen years ago) link

I keep forgetting about Pink's R&B phase. There You Go was fantastic.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 09:52 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah for a minute there it really looked like she could be a terrific artist..."most girls" was even better.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 09:59 (fourteen years ago) link

lex have you ever heard "goodbye earl"?

voting aaliyah

brutt fartve (k3vin k.), Sunday, 6 December 2009 00:31 (fourteen years ago) link

kind of amazing that "goodbye earl" peaked at only 19 on the hot 100 charts (though my exposure to it was mainly thru video channels, where it was HUGE) and only 13 on the country charts(!)

brutt fartve (k3vin k.), Sunday, 6 December 2009 00:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Ying Yang Twins, “Whistle While You Twurk” (ColliPark) 3/18 (95)

LOL I remember a DJ on this high school radio station I listened to going on a 5 min rant about how they had no idea how this was on the chart. This song really came out of nowhere though.

The last Hot 100 New Entries poll was a whole lot better, not a lot of great stuff here. Will vote for Bad Touch (which needs a lyrics poll btw)

musically, Sunday, 6 December 2009 00:34 (fourteen years ago) link

didn't they play the entire Goodbye Earl video during the Grammys/AMAs/award show? I think that's the only Dixie Chicks song I've ever heard.

musically, Sunday, 6 December 2009 00:35 (fourteen years ago) link

they might have, my parents probably didnt let me watch that stuff at that point. mtv and the BOX at summer camp was all i had
