I think its safe to say that me and this dude have wildly different tastes
― pentz dispenser (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 5 December 2009 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
me too! that's why i'm curious to listen to it!
― Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 5 December 2009 20:09 (fifteen years ago)
i mean, Sean and i intersect on some stuff but his taste in indie pop is pretty divergent from mine so this gives me a good opportunity to get caught up on a lotta stuff i'm less familiar with.
i read this blog, it's really good! blackout beach is great, creeps me out the same way david bowie used to creep me out as a kid.

The 2009 Magazine Albums Of The Year Thread For Posting Lists and Discussion.
― curmudgeon, Saturday, 5 December 2009 20:16 (fifteen years ago)
think it deserves its own thread cuz it's downloadable for listenalongability

what a horribly formed "thread"

i have just started listening to the songs on my ipod. to locate them i went into genre "said the gramophone's best 2009". sean's and my taste overlap but i have got the impression the overlap gets smaller from year to year. this could have to do with the tendency of the current music not to reach me anymore. will report later but the hopes to find some hidden jewels are unfortunately pretty low.
― alex in mainhattan, Saturday, 5 December 2009 21:10 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, this is absolutely no reflection on sean's tastes, which, as far as i can tell are where they were in 2004, but i liked maybe 5 of those tracks, whereas in the early days i probably liked half. i love how much he loves music though, so i always check in once a year. thanks for the heads up forks.

^same, thx john
― SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Saturday, 5 December 2009 21:28 (fifteen years ago)
stuff i liked=============vic chesnutt - flirted with you all my lifebon iver - blood banki knew those two beforehand. some great tuneful songwriting by two outsiders.
bill callahan - the breeze/my baby criescontrary to most of the contemporary singers he has a voice. and he can write and compose songs. it does not harm that they are slow.
another twenty or so to go. maybe for tomorrow.
― alex in mainhattan, Saturday, 5 December 2009 22:11 (fifteen years ago)
thanks john.
i always figure the point of these things is to be staunchly representative of yr own tastes, instead of catering to one's audience (or to "canon"/fears-of-not-enough-black-people). so all i can say is that i love these songs a lot; i hope you find some more you like, too.

it was nice going through this. and hearing nneka - heartbeat for the first time definitely made it worth my while. in love with this song.
― kaygee, Sunday, 6 December 2009 07:44 (fifteen years ago)
it's a great track and i much prefer the original to the remix.
― Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 6 December 2009 15:55 (fifteen years ago)
other songs i enjoyed:
casiotone for the painfully alone - natural lightsharon van etten - much more than thathighlife - f kenya riprattail - go greenslaraffenland - awaypatrick watson - wooden armsthe xx - islands
thanks sean for your labour of love.
― alex in mainhattan, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago)
I listened to all of them, and liked:
Highlife - F Kenya ripThe Horrors - Sea within a SeaKelis - AcapellaMatias Aguayo - rollerskateDirty Projectors - No intentionTune Yards - Hatari
The highlife, Tune yards, and Dirty Projectors ones are really good, but I also kind of think I would totally hate dirty projectors if I ever heard any other song of theirsI think being a super-low bitrate mp3 makes the Kelis song sound better!

i always figure the point of these things is to be staunchly representative of yr own tastes, instead of catering to one's audience
and it shows! and it's a good thing! the reality that all music sites and publications have the same top 20 shuffled about in a slightly different order is starting to really make me hate some of those artists. and some of them are really good!
― brooklyn we go ham (samosa gibreel), Monday, 7 December 2009 04:53 (fifteen years ago)
i tend to be more willing to trust a blog like stg when it comes to artists that enter into that group of consensus top 10/20/whatever. in most of those cases it starts to feel like the music is almost irrelevant, and i'm a little hesitant to give it a chance unless it's recommended by someone who i generally kind of trust even if i don't always agree. that was the case with wild beasts and this list this year, anyways.

This mix is practically impossible for me to listen to.
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 12 December 2009 00:55 (fifteen years ago)
There are 75 tracks on this mix? Oh, too generous; much too generous.
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 12 December 2009 01:36 (fifteen years ago)
it's not a mix bro
― donde está mia farrow, fa la la la la, la la la la (s1ocki), Saturday, 12 December 2009 06:34 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah it is, just because it isn't all segued together doesn't mean it isn't a mix, but I can call it a sampler if you'd prefer.
― anointed and appointed (_Rudipherous_), Saturday, 12 December 2009 08:44 (fifteen years ago)
nice to see "hatin' on the club" get some love - i'm glad rated r is what it is, but this is like a signpost to what it could have been.

Tonetta - “My Bro” Tonetta’s back-story crapper command his music: middle-aged Toronto weirdo, conception Lou Reed and conception Roy Orbison, making music for 25 eld before he is unconcealed on YouTube, parading in suits, masks, ladies’ dresses. But I exclusive heard the news later, when I had already been charmed by his exceptional songs - by the gentle fleecy pop + the ones which are darkly fucked up. That’s when I spilled, saucer-eyed, into the Tonetta fanclub underground. He makes so much music - he needs archivists. Anyhow, “My Bro” is menacing, catching, darkly sensational. I wrote the imagine of it here.

wow that's crazy, and basically cool
