Always had a soft spot for Move Any Mountain, and L.S.I. suckers me in cos I love a song with initials.

Destroy, that post Boss Drum ambient album - even Orbus Terrarum is better than that nonsense.

I am embarrassed now by how MEANINGFUL I thought "Jesus Loves Amerika" (that k! eek!) was.

Boss Drum though is marvellous as anyone who was at my last birthday party and heard John's rewind-selector treatment of "LSI" would surely agree.

I was obsessed with ‘Make it mine’ for a long while. Early Shamen will always have fond memories. Any good? Well early UK pop house seems very dated at the moment – S’Express, Beloved, Bomb the Bass etc. The American stuff from this period sounds much fresher.

At the time I loved 'En-Tact' and thought 'Boss Drum', LSI, and the increasing influence of Mr C was lamentable. I'm not sure I'm ready to revise this opinion, in fact. I suddenly feel like kicking rave culture's head in this morning. Put it down to sleeplessness.

S'Express 'Hey Music Lover' is a divine snapshot for me, i argued in fava of it against many a jesus jones fan. But it does sound dated I agree - maybe thats what i like about it now - the plasticity, plonky pianos and those vocals, ..heaven

Geordie Racer, Friday, 27 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There is a superb Philip Glass remix of S'Express 'Hey Music Lover' .

Guy, Friday, 27 April 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey Nick, come on. The Shamen were nothing before I joined. Nothing! They were just a bunch of jocks playing 13th Floor Elevators covers! I taught 'em everything.

Then I went off to college, and what happens. Nothing.

Dr. C (formerly Mr. C)

First of all they were overrated, but you knew I was going to say that. Typical dance*band* liked by journo's esp. of the indie- persuasion. No self-respecting Dj's would touch their records. Still search: Move any mountain, is a pretty decent E-anthem. Destroy: Mr.C**t and the rest of their shite records.

So who was Ebenezer Goode anyway? Sounds like it might have been a fake name. ;-)

nine years pass...

The song "Boss Drum" is so fantastic.

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

I went on a minor youtube Shamen spree after posting in the other thread. Boss Drum is indeed fantastic. I also remembered how much I love Omega Amigo. I have a strong emotional connection to En-Tact (that has nothing to do with clubs - it was one of 3 CDs that I owned when I was stuck in military technical school in the middle of nowhere). I literally had nothing else to do outside of work other than smoke, jog, read and listen to those three CDs.

one year passes...

Search: an audio recording of the 'Live USA version' of Make It Mine. I've been looking for this since the song came out 2 decades ago. When I lived in the Seattle area, there was a radio station that played this version, and once in a while I would see the video on TV which played this version. To me, this is the 'official' version of the song that I remember so fondly.

I bought the album, when I was a young adolescent, but it had a different version. I bought the CD single. It didn't have the right version. I bought a cutout of the remix EP released by The Face magazine. No dice. It's not even on Soulseek! Just a BBC session with a similar name.

Hm. I thought I had it but clearly not! DJP?

Also for DJP and everyone, THIS might produce some amazing flashbacks. Also, Will Sin and no Mr. C!

i agree they were pretty overrated, though move any mountain was a decent single. this is lush though, and has aged surprisingly well:

I like the stuff from when they were just becoming enamoured with technology, so before Mr C who i'm far from a fan of.

She's Shitting on Britain, Christopher Mayhew Says etc is the stuff I like. Think it was compiled on a mini lp for US consumption.

Maybe even earlier is good too. Don't think I've heard any Aloneagainor their previous incarnation before their name change.

just remembered that somebody put me up in Edinburgh one time and the room turned out to have been the one that Will had lived in previously.

I feel like generations hundreds of years hence will have difficulty in qualitatively distinguishing between that Hyperreal vid and Wookiefoot.
