if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Monday, 7 December 2009 04:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be amazed if anything other than Britney or Jay-Z get votes (I went with Jay).

Jesus Christ. It's Jay-Z.

(Title change has been requested, obv. This is April, not Feb.)

I'm also inclined towards Jay Z but that Britney song is pretty epic. Anastacia and Hanson both have good tracks here too.

Big Punisher ft. Donell Jones, "It's So Hard" (Loud/Columbia) 4/22 (96)

^^ this song is awesome and is probably the only posthumous video by a dead rapper that gets me kind of misty

I just wrote 200 words on "Big Pimpin'" for a decade countdown and have no desire to hear it.

Voting for Son by Four for the sake of the salsa version of that song, even though this is presumably the other version.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 7 December 2009 04:50 (fifteen years ago)

if you ever feel overcome by his passing, just read a story about how severely he beat his wife.

musically, Monday, 7 December 2009 04:52 (fifteen years ago)

(At one point I was dating a singer who walked down the street with me singing "A Puro Dolor," so there are some pretty specific associations in play, plus memories of hearing it in clubs. I do think it's a good song though, if you can tolerate a certain amount of schmaltz.)

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 7 December 2009 04:55 (fifteen years ago)

oops i voted for big pimpin before seeing hanson.

brooklyn we go ham (samosa gibreel), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:01 (fifteen years ago)

"Wobble Wobble," probably.

really senile old crap shit (Eric H.), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:03 (fifteen years ago)

brit.

i don't know why the misogyny in "big pimpin" (first verse especially) bothers me more than a lot of other song-lyric misogyny, but it does. the beat and hook are massive, but the song's pretty ugly.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:09 (fifteen years ago)

(and yes i realize that complaining about sexism in a song called "big pimpin" is sort of an exercise in futility. but still.)

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:13 (fifteen years ago)

lol yeah, this is big pimpin by a mile, though loved that britney video and "graduation" was hella fun on the radio, plus my friends and i were about to "graduate" from elementary school and it was our anthem, shit ~hit hard

k3vin k., Monday, 7 December 2009 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

im basically voting what ten year old me would have voted on all these

k3vin k., Monday, 7 December 2009 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

M2M!! But will vote Britney to balance off the Jay votes, and because she is at her most cutest in that vid.

uninspired girls rejoice!!! (Hoot Smalley), Monday, 7 December 2009 05:57 (fifteen years ago)

BTW I'm consdiering abandoning the week-by-week structure to do '00s months at random. Anyone for/against?

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Monday, 7 December 2009 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

i kinda like the month by month (that's what you meant right?) actually, but would participate either way

k3vin k., Monday, 7 December 2009 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

I do mean month-by-month, yes, it's how I'm doing now. I kind of like it too; it gives this sense of narrative. I was thinking it might need shaking up but you're right, I'll stick to it.

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Monday, 7 December 2009 06:10 (fifteen years ago)

(sorry, yes, month-by-month, not week-by-week)

if you ever feel high and mighty about other people enjoying the work of great musicians who weren't necessarily great human beings, maybe you should look at your own record collection and try to count the known scumbags who made albums you love

radric in manehattan (some dude), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

lol are you kidding me, you're talking to Chris Brown's last fan on ILX, my comment was about Big Pun as a person and I think that was made obvious.

musically, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 01:14 (fifteen years ago)

fair enough, i just thought it was a cheap shot when i was just appreciating the man's music and the loss of his talent

radric in manehattan (some dude), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

and mourning the loss of his talent, meant to say

radric in manehattan (some dude), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 01:17 (fifteen years ago)

"Britney, before you go, there's something I want you to have."

uninspired girls rejoice!!! (Hoot Smalley), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 01:31 (fifteen years ago)
