lol holiday

kind of an odd list. heavenly were past their prime at this point. the best record any of them put out in '96 was the trembling blue stars one so i'll give it to them

i believe '97 is when i joined indiepop-l

i guess i'd go with stereolab, they seem the odd one on the list (and the only one on that list i listened to then)

haha maybe this should be another poll:

this sucked in 1996:

1. The Indiepop List (9)
indie snobbery on the indiepop list
the way the indiepop-list has been taken over by bullies
the mainstreaming (rockification) of the indiepop list
the number of veteran listees who unsubscribed after being
flamed one too many times by the new indie-rock stormtroopers
2. Oasis (7)
Spice Girls (7)
4. Holiday breaking up (5)
Ryan 'i was french in the morning' Stotz (5)

i remember ryan stotz. i wonder whatever happened to that freak.

I like Magnetic Fields and B&S best of these, but Divine Comedy almost as much and they never get their due, so them.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

i voted for apples yall

lukevalentine, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 06:07 (fifteen years ago)

By reasoning similar to Guayaquil's, I too voted for Divine Comedy. (But Stereolab is the band I consider "better" on some level.)

Monophonic Spree (Paul in Santa Cruz), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 09:18 (fifteen years ago)

i kinda agree about stereolab, but at the time they really felt like they were on their decline for me.. which seems a little ridiculous in retrospect considering that fluourescences/pinball is one of their best records..

voted for push kings - something i never imagined would be an option anywhere, ever

a dimension that can only be accessed through self-immolation (contenderizer), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 09:43 (fifteen years ago)

stereolab

though wow, reading that linked page made me realise that the internet has always kinda sucked. even back in 1996

dude *really* dug trolling indie kids. i started a very short-lived mailing list which he immediately joined laying into me for some shit or another

Stereolab is twee? they're by far the best band on here, but still... otherwise my vote would go to B&S, who were great once upon a time

a triumph in high-tech nipple obfuscation (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

I've only ever heard B&S, who I love, so them. I've heard good things about Stereolab and Trembling Blue Stars, so I'm sure I'll pick up a couple of their albums someday. Never heard of any of the others, so they're obviously crap.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 11 December 2009 06:01 (fifteen years ago)

Trembling Blue Stars are one of my most loved bands. When I get in the mood to listen to them, it can last for hours.

Jacob Sanders, Friday, 11 December 2009 06:09 (fifteen years ago)

holiday *are* crap. push kings i have never heard

matt preston school of industry (electricsound), Friday, 11 December 2009 06:43 (fifteen years ago)

didn't rocketship's LP come out in 97?

that should have been #1 by a long shot.

quiet and secretively we will always be together (Steve Shasta), Friday, 11 December 2009 06:46 (fifteen years ago)

but the stuff being polled is '96

matt preston school of industry (electricsound), Friday, 11 December 2009 06:50 (fifteen years ago)
