Emerson, Lake and Palmer and ZZ Top have been revealed as the headliners of a new UK festival dedicated exclusively to classic rock.

The veterans will play the High Voltage festival in London's Victoria Park on 24 and 25 July.

According to organisers, Emerson, Lake and Palmer are reforming especially for the event, playing their "one and only live performance of 2010 - and possibly the last show they will ever play together".

Comprising Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (guitar, vocals) and Carl Palmer (drums), the group sold more than 40 million albums of progressive rock, with songs ranging from tales of environmental apocalypse to mechanical armadillos born in volcanoes.

They were persuaded to play by Classic Rock magazine, which is building the festival upon ideas from their readers - including designated hotels, "proper" beer and no booking fees.

Tickets for the two-day event are on sale now.

Real ale then?

Is there counterfeit beer being served in the UK?

Gorge, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

I think they mean it's usually lager.

i imagine classic rock readers to be the same men who campaign to save blightys boozers and are members of CAMRA and watch Top Gear.

I didn't know you were a member of CAMRA

Sonny Uplands (Tom D.), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

I read Classic Rock, and I have no idea what any of this:

"blightys boozers and are members of CAMRA and watch Top Gear"

means.

Campaign to save "old traditional pubs in England" and are members of "The Campaign for Real Ale" and watch "the BBC show that used to be all about cars and the motoring industry and was like tomorrows world but boring, but now is a 'laff' progamme and gets lots of women watching because of Richard Hammond"...

Mark G, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

"... and some like James May? But none like Jeremy Clarkson, obviously"

Sonny Uplands (Tom D.), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

I sympathize with the traditional pub thing, and any campaign for something having to do with any alcoholic beverage is certainly within my wheelhouse, but I dont get any BBC cuz I live in Morristown, New Jersey, USA. So Herm, I think you need to revise your theory.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:15 (fifteen years ago)

What an odd combination. I hope ZZ Top sets fire to them.

"the BBC show that used to be all about cars and the motoring industry and was like tomorrows world but boring

Yes, sadly exported to the US for cable where I've been unable to watch more than 90 seconds of it at a time. Even the commercials for it were intolerable. I figured it was for the set which gets erections over people like Sidney Alford build land mines. And for those who don't know, Alford is the Brit TV king of explosives, a Top Gear kind of thing, too, always on cable when one needs to know how a cluster bomb or shaped charge works.
