Good one. Crazy for you, followed by Visions of La.

B'wana Beast, Thursday, 10 December 2009 08:06 (fifteen years ago)

I'll go for Blue Skied an' Clear. I've never made sense of the lyrics but I really like how the bassline pulls it all together and the effervescent feeling of what seems to be the chorus.

feisty, Spanish, girl (Moka), Thursday, 10 December 2009 08:10 (fifteen years ago)

Actually, I got Visions of La mixed up with Blue Skied, really meant Blue Skied. But still second to Crazy for you.

B'wana Beast, Thursday, 10 December 2009 08:22 (fifteen years ago)

It's been a long time.

CRAZY FOR YOU

ABSOLUTELY NO SCRUBS WHATSOEVER, Thursday, 10 December 2009 09:44 (fifteen years ago)

Gorgeous album.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 10 December 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago)

had to listen to this again because i didn't know any of the song titles

for me it's a tossup between 'trellisaze' and 'visions of la'. the latter for its beautiful minor chord progression and the former because its clear guitar tone reminds me of fucking around with a delay pedal

Kate 'Impeach' Bush (Future_Perfect), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

because of its clear guitar tone AND reminding me of fucking around with a delay pedal, rather.

Kate 'Impeach' Bush (Future_Perfect), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

"Rutti" is the best opening track on any album ever, so that. It's ten minutes long and I wish it were 100 minutes long.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 11 December 2009 05:32 (fifteen years ago)

this album is fucking awesome but i kinda have to be boring and go blue skied here

102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 05:38 (fifteen years ago)

I truely love this album. I think I'm with Mr. Snrub.

CRAAAAZY

Crazy for You is great <3

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Friday, 11 December 2009 05:42 (fifteen years ago)

listening to this album from beginning to end is an amazing experience (especially really early in the morning), but crazy for you stands out as the tune that really knocks this album out of the park while encapsulating the sound they were going for.

DustyLoops, Friday, 11 December 2009 06:04 (fifteen years ago)

"Rutti" is the best opening track on any album ever, so that. It's ten minutes long and I wish it were 100 minutes long.

^^^^ with this.

(also my favorite Slowdive album by far)

And another OTM vote

OTM.

EDB, Friday, 11 December 2009 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

how does the mojave3 stuff stack up to this album?

Kate 'Impeach' Bush (Future_Perfect), Friday, 11 December 2009 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

it pales in comparison imo.

Trip Maker, Friday, 11 December 2009 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

imo 'spoon and rafter' is as good as any album slowdive did, the song 'bluebird of happiness' alone is godhead, 'billoddity' and 'the battle of broken hearts' not far behind

102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

unless 'spoon and rafter' marked a radical change, I have to say Mojave 3 comes across as pleasant but slight

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Friday, 11 December 2009 21:24 (fifteen years ago)

"crazy for you." ulrich schnauss's cover is even better

kamerad, Friday, 11 December 2009 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

ulrich schnauss's cover

hang on

I know Schnauss organised a compilation in honour of Slowdive called Blue Skied An' Clear but he covered this particular song? I may prefer the Blue Skied original but there's something about Schnauss covering Crazy For You that kinda sets me off

i wouldn't call myself an indie kid! i may be deluded (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

and Spoon And Rafter is a lovely, substantial, beautifully-sequenced record full of great moments, super melodies and genuine surprises.

i wouldn't call myself an indie kid! i may be deluded (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

that's 'crazy'... i was just listening to this ulrich schnauss remix of bluebird of happiness. lovely song

xpost

Kate 'Impeach' Bush (Future_Perfect), Friday, 11 December 2009 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

YES hahaha although I actually think the original just about pips the Schnauss version in that instance...it's like a perfect union of awesome, except the parent song really doesn't need any work done to it.

i wouldn't call myself an indie kid! i may be deluded (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

Or to put it more accurately, Schnauss' mix is a bit faithful to the source text. There's a couple of other remixes (Dan Snaith has a go, as does Adem) which change it up radically. Schnauss just turns up the reverb. It's still gorgeous!

Actually, the new bassline in the Schnauss version is kinda wondrous. Hmm. It's a closer call than I thought.

crazy for youtube!

kamerad, Friday, 11 December 2009 23:56 (fifteen years ago)

it's like a tears for fears and dream academy jam session. oh ulrich

kamerad, Friday, 11 December 2009 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

i am crazy for u, where u is both u and ulrich

p.s. ulrich schnauss = the best shoegaze qua shoegaze artist ever - he understands shoegaze, lives it, breathes it - you can kevin shields me all you want but KS wasn't a shoegaze artist so much as a sonic innovator and dreampop genius who kinda loved his noize

i wouldn't call myself an indie kid! i may be deluded (acoleuthic), Saturday, 12 December 2009 00:03 (fifteen years ago)

btw 'trellisaze' came VERY close to getting my vote; it's a stunning, stunning piece of music and it does amazing things with bleepy noises

dyaaaow (acoleuthic), Sunday, 13 December 2009 12:04 (fifteen years ago)

oops i voted Blue Skies but i obviously meant Crazy for You

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 13 December 2009 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

no you didn't :D

three weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

i haven't listened to this album in forever. anyone heard those pygmalion demos that floated around the web awhile back (still floating, prob)? some really great stuff there, unreleased tracks are a wonder. "Red 5", in particular, why-oh-why did they NOT release that one?

guammls (QE II), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

I voted for Rutti - one of my all-time favorite Slowdive songs.

"Rutti" is the best opening track on any album ever, so that. It's ten minutes long and I wish it were 100 minutes long.

I agree with this - though this song also makes a great closer. I've used it to end all kinds of night-time compilations/playlists.

nine months pass...

I remember listening to "Miranda" in the aftermath of 9/11, and it being very, very unsettling. A lot of the weird sounds in this song sounded like airplanes, and it was completely freaking me out.

Poliopolice, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 02:00 (twelve years ago)

two years pass...

where have i heard the beautiful female vocal line from Blue Skied an' Clear outside the context of this record? since I've never heard the record until today and I've no idea why i left it so long.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Saturday, 15 August 2015 18:01 (ten years ago)

it could be in a film, a mix, a cover version, a sample or whatever but i knew it straight away.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Saturday, 15 August 2015 18:02 (ten years ago)

What female vocal?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 15 August 2015 19:50 (ten years ago)

sorry, it's obviously a chorister, now that i listen to it again.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Saturday, 15 August 2015 20:04 (ten years ago)

While I way prefer Souvlaki to Pygmalion, Blue Skied an' Clear is so good.

that's not my post, Sunday, 16 August 2015 06:18 (ten years ago)

nine years pass...

Pygmalion turns 30 this week and is still gorgeous. Worth a thread revive, I reckon.

It's always worth it!
