pretty good, about evenly split between the tour leading up and Altamont. Opinions, please: are the Dead truly at fault for recommending the Hell's Angel as security guards, and then turning around and leaving without playing when things went insane, or is there any defense they offered up? One person in the doc calls it "moral cowardice" which seems about right

i don't know, you mean leaving the concert, recommending the Dead, or both? It's actually pretty amazing how Mick attempts to hold the show together (remembering back to the scene as it is treated in Gimme Shelter)

The Stones had previously hired Hells Angels as security for the Hyde Park show in July and so when the Dead mentioned hiring them for Altamont, the Stone went along. What the Stones didn't realize were that the American Hells Angels were completely different from the UK Hells Angeles - who were considerably younger and not nearly as violent.
