Green gloves. No question. That song does it to me every time.

I heard "Fake Empire" at the supermarket a few months ago!

"Mistaken For Strangers" is the keeper. The rest is mumbly portents.

i actually got a chance to listen to this today. it was much better than i remembered. i never over played it but burned out on it really quickly, so i thought it was hugely overrated.

i want to vote for "Slow Show" but already voted for "Fake Empire."

Had massive National burnout and had forgotten how many excellent songs were on this album. The production is distant and reverby - many alt. & live versions are better than the studio ones - but in the backlash I'm a bit ashamed of how I hipsterly dropped this band when they got ubiquitous (at least, ubiquitous on shuffle on my iPod). Will have to give a considered listen tomorrow while doing the dishes to determine Which! Will! Be! The! WINNAH!

Apartment Story.

Another listen confirms: the production on this record sucks. The strings, horns & misc. instruments work against the songs & arrangements rather than for them. It's as though they went to every pain to disguise their two greatest assets: a killer guitarist and monster drummer.

Still: Racing Like a Pro.

this seems like a really weird statement. i love the production on this album, obv just a matter of taste there, but objectively the drums seem really loud and clear so i'm not sure why you think they're disguising the drumming?

anyways i voted for "brainy"
