as far as the eye (ken c) (some dude), Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

what u think i steen for to push a crawfish? (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

i would go on, some dude, but my "centimeter-deep knowledge of rap this year" means I only listened to 39 of these

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

This is kind of sad. Less than one album a week.

President Keyes, Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

you being the one person who's heard that many means you should definitely, y'know, post at length instead of taking shots at someone who's not even on the thread

xpost

as far as the eye (ken c) (some dude), Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

UGK over Gucci, New Boyz, Ghost, Ross

art crut (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 December 2009 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

Albums I had no idea existed:

Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 (J.O.S.E. 2)
Maino - If Tomorrow Comes...
Playaz Circle - Flight 360: The Takeoff

art crut (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

i need to do my whineygo trip top 25, which would basically be that list plus Quik/Kurupt, Tanya Morgan, Camp Lo, Cormega, Skyzoo, Blaq Poet, etc

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

oh, add Mims to that list

art crut (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

b.g. isn't on there, but from the list it's either ugk or mos def for me

hey trader joe's! i've got the new steely dan. (Jordan), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

This is kind of sad

my feelings exactly

surprised that Quik/Kurupt album wasn't major label

larry craig memorial gloryhole (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

I guess B.G. counts, I thought of it as an independent since it's through E1/Koch but apparently Atlantic had something to do with it? So we can make that the 'other' write-in if you wanna vote for that.

as far as the eye (ken c) (some dude), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Friday, 1 January 2010 23:54 (fifteen years ago)

that cam'ron album is dogshit

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 January 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

xp which is the title of the Paul Wall album that you meant s.d.

get money stay true was from 07

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Friday, 1 January 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

probably the worst collection of beats of the year

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 January 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

i lol'd at your screen name but smh'ed at your misguided judgement of Crime Pays

you need to CURVE

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Friday, 1 January 2010 23:56 (fifteen years ago)

my main problem with that album is that - "i hate my job" aside - there were very few bouncy soul beats a la "soap opera" or "hey lady"

the four songs i kept from that album are

silky (no homo)
i hate my job
get it in ohio
cookin up

the last two are def bangers

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 January 2010 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

soooo not enough songz 4 da ladiez?

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Saturday, 2 January 2010 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

those aren't for the ladies really - pretty much every beat on that album is tinny and unpleasant

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 2 January 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

no i meant soap opera and hey lady

those are like my two least favorite songs from that album, probably haven't not skipped them since 05

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Saturday, 2 January 2010 00:03 (fifteen years ago)

i love those songs

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 2 January 2010 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

Boosie's my favourite (of those I heard - not a huge amount)

Tim F, Saturday, 2 January 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

lex: what tracks do yo like from back on my b.s.? i still kinda hold a torch for busta's ability on freestyles and features and such like, bt i don't even check for his official releases. I'd quite like to make a playlist of busta in 2009 tho with good cuts from the album along with some of these things (royce feature, renaissance rap remix, kay slay freestyle over "nutmeg", feature with billy danze etc.)

zvookster, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 13:20 (fifteen years ago)

it's more cuz they're really addictive beats to bump to with great guest spots...busta himself is enjoyably generic, mostly, rather than mindblowing. but..."conglomerate" (the version with jeezy not wayne), the "hustler's anthem" remix with gucci mane, "kill dem" with tosh, "world go round" with estelle. i remember a couple of other nice enough autotune/dancehall tracks too.

Ranking the ones I've heard, best to worst:

Raekwon
Mos Def
Ghostface Killah
Clipse
UGK
Jay-Z
Kid Cudi

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

thx lex.
wow at estelle's new (?) haircut looking like that one chick from en vogue. busta doing handbag house is kinda why i avoid the official releases tbh, not that it's terrible but js the feeling that it shouldn't be busta doing it. kill dem is fun tho! dancehall style can make me nervous tho like bopping around to elephant man or something (apologies to e man if he's cool) and someone looks at you coldly and says "you know that's about killing gay ppl with fire, right?" and you're like um no ermmmm. i remember that "respect my conglomerate" track. seems like it's from such a long time ago.

zvookster, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 16:35 (fifteen years ago)

1) gucci
2) lil boosie
3) raekwon
4) ugk
5) rick ross

surprised at how few of these i have heard though (only clipse, jadakiss and kid sister other than the above) :(

patting myself on the back for going the whole year without hearing the blueprint 3 once

david cam'ron (tpp), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

Shock Value 2 was released? Where are the hits?

Hoisin Murphy (jaymc), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

it came out in November, same week as Rihanna and Lady Gaga as part of that 'super monday' promotion, and sold 37k. the song w/ Drake is getting a tiny bit of R&B radio play but other than that, no hits.

call me mr. brimstone, i can melt your flesh off (some dude), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)
