billstevejim, Thursday, 7 January 2010 05:47 (fifteen years ago)

At what point, exactly, did you realize that you were out of touch with popular rock, Mr. Cannibals?

Giorgio Marauder (I eat cannibals), Thursday, 7 January 2010 05:49 (fifteen years ago)

i'll save you time.. all of those songs are turds except for silversun. now you're back in the game.

bc there is saving required

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:01 (fifteen years ago)

and when rock needs saving, the strokes will be there

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:01 (fifteen years ago)

to save it and whatnot

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:01 (fifteen years ago)

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:02 (fifteen years ago)

the strokes already tried to save rock once and it didn't take. (they forgot to bring a drummer.)

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:03 (fifteen years ago)

Papa Roach and Linkin Park still selling records? Mmmm think the only songs I've heard of these lot are the Kings of Leon... can't decide which one of those is the least annoying.

Moka, Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:04 (fifteen years ago)

really liked "Second Chance," also I've only heard that one and the two Kings of Leon songs so this is rather easy

does not compute

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 06:36 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i definitely read where they saved rock'n'roll

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 07:02 (fifteen years ago)

ha, i forgot about this poll! glad that ppl took it seriously

i really dig the first two KOL albums & am glad to see them so famous and what not - that said their last two albums have been largely bunk but i think "use somebody" is pretty much a classic, so that's what i voted for

total eclipse of the shart (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

alex i miss your column too cuz i only knew 4 of these

total eclipse of the shart (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 7 January 2010 07:14 (fifteen years ago)

heathens

some dude, Friday, 8 January 2010 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

Good to know there's at least 11 smart people left on ILM.

billstevejim, Friday, 8 January 2010 01:02 (fifteen years ago)

smart = i only like mainstream rock if it sounds indie?

some dude, Friday, 8 January 2010 01:03 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think the winning song sounds all that indie.. but to my ears this competition was 1 killer single VS 9 wack singles.

billstevejim, Friday, 8 January 2010 04:37 (fifteen years ago)

well, it sounds like '90s indie, but it's still by far the most indie thing on the list (in label terms and aesthetically)

some dude, Friday, 8 January 2010 04:49 (fifteen years ago)

"i really dig the first two KOL albums & am glad to see them so famous and what not - that said their last two albums have been largely bunk but i think "use somebody" is pretty much a classic, so that's what i voted for"

Seriously? Back when I worked for the rag, we got umpteen promos for KoL and I couldn't fucking stand them—the epitome of bloodless hipsters wanting to rehabilitate "Southern Rock" for people who didn't listen to and didn't like any rock (indie doesn't count). I'd rather have a by-the-numbers Molly Hatchet album than anything KoL ever did, and to differentiate between early and late seems to me like sifting shit for corn.

Just from kicking around ILX, I know you like a lot more chart pop that I do, but I still can't fathom having any feelings more positive than ennui for KoL.

Giorgio Marauder (I eat cannibals), Friday, 8 January 2010 06:51 (fifteen years ago)

"King Of The Rodeo" isn't bad.

billstevejim, Friday, 8 January 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

hahahaha I should've clarified that I really like the drumming, not that they saved rock.
