I still haven't decided which Ryan Leslie album I like better

art crut (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

hmm i think the s/t has the best songs (the two singles are pretty titanic obv) but the other one is a better album

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

"Gibberish" is the best song on either, and it's not just the novelty value, although some of that, sure. Ironically, his singing gains more character when he doesn't have to worry about some perfunctory set of lyrics that not even he buys into.

art crut (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

second is def the better album!

maxwell, though i never did get round to listening to jeremih/thicke/valentino in full.

r kelly's missing! it's pretty good, closing 3 tracks in particular.

ha, otm rev

this is what i ended my review of the s/t with

He ends with his most left-field track, “Gibberish”. The song finds Leslie using AutoTune to turn his vocals into soup and to muddle his lyrics completely beyond recognition. The commentary—overtly placing the success of the song solely on the melody and arrangement—is if not slyly intentional, then ironically emblematic. Naturally, it’s the prettiest song on the album.

smh @ forgetting kells since i'm in the process of a review

it's kind of garbage if you ask me tho

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 December 2009 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, it probably does have his strongest melody, too

i'm assuming no Love Vs. Money is a mistake, but i'm fine w/ that because the poll will be more interesting without it.

of the ones I've heard: Maxwell > Jeremih > R-Les s/t > Prince > Mario > R-Les Transition...still haven't checked out the Thicke yet, though.

also I totally don't see the bfd about "Gibberish," far far from my favorite song on that album.

i don't know ryan leslie, what's his deal

hey trader joe's! i've got the new steely dan. (Jordan), Thursday, 31 December 2009 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

he produced a bunch of Cassie's stuff including "Me & U," is kind of not a good singer but had some pretty good and moderately popular solo singles last year ("Diamond Girl" and "Addiction") and released 2 albums this year.

didn't see the Terius exception in the subject line, nvm about that

some dude, Thursday, 31 December 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

Maxwell's my album of the year, so that.

Hell is other people. In an ILE film forum. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 31 December 2009 23:21 (fifteen years ago)

weve all written about "gibberish" a million times but suffice it to say i agree with j and rev. voting for maxwell over r les, but i feel like something's missing (besides terius)

In spite of a few bright spots, I don't think I enjoyed r&b overall this much as rap or dahnce

art crut (The Reverend), Saturday, 2 January 2010 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

should read "I don't think I enjoyed r&b overall this year as much as rap or dahnce"

"pretty wings" aside, maxwell album is prob my most boring listening experience of the year

y tu mama ambien (Tape Store), Thursday, 7 January 2010 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

Maxwell is going to walk this.
