if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Friday, 1 January 2010 00:35 (fifteen years ago)

Jay-Z in a walk, though "E.I." is strong and I have kind feelings for "911" as well.

the "what means the world to you" (remix) is one of my fav rap songs ever, never heard the OG tho

Nelly - E.I. - Universal - 10/7/00 - 71

^this is what i'm voting for

Queef Latina (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 January 2010 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

i heard "i just wanna love u" the other day, and it still holds up pretty damn well

i always wanted to start a film blog called Stingy With De Niro but that would require that i write about film

If you want to take "stingy with De Niro" literally then you wouldn't have to write film at all.

Am I wrong in thinking the Jay-Z tune is underrated? I forgot it existed.

Hell is other people. In an ILE film forum. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 January 2010 00:52 (fifteen years ago)

It's one of the five best Neptunes productions, easily.

Really, Alfred? I still hear it all the time.

Anyway, that's probably the best song here, but I've always loved "E.I.", even at the time when I was a corny dude who stumped for Jurassic 5, and that's what I'm voting for. "What Means the World to You" and "Just Friends" are jams, too.

I think it's kind of underrated at least in terms of not showing up on a lot of end-of-decade lists like Pitchfork's among all the other Jay-Z songs (although it was #1 on Complex's, which I liked since it's easily in my top 10), but it's definitely one of his best big hits and a perennial radio staple.

Sadness is beautiful. Loneliness is tragical.

uninspired girls rejoice!!! (Hoot Smalley), Friday, 1 January 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

xps: Yeah, I was just saying I probably hear it more than any Jay-Z song except for "Big Pimpin'" and his current hits.

I didn't vote for this but it would be:

1. Shape of my Heart
2. E.I.
3. Toca's Miracle
4. I Just Wanna Love U

Kinda pleased to see two votes for "Straight Up" though I think of it as a minor piece. It's nice to see that people even remember it. I always loved the line "Here's the number to the crib where I really live..."

Tim F, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

would have voted "just wanna love you" but i dig those fuel and matchbox 20 tracks
