I only know The Living Road but it's great. She put on one of the best shows I saw in 2005 at the Triple Door in Seattle. R.I.P.

Too sad. She contributed gorgeous vocals to this Tindersticks song, one of their very best:

This is really awful, Lhasa was one of my absolute favourite singers. I wasn't into the new one as much but The Living Road in particular is totally classic for me, a brilliant album and one of very few I'd happily describe as "flawless".

Only know her through her most recent album, which I liked a lot. Really sad news.

She was one of my favorite singers and I never got the chance to see her perform live. I remember listening to La Llorona five years ago in NYC whilst dealing with some heavy post-breakup depression and it set my heart on fire. Been a fan of her ever since.
She was forced to cancel a long international tour scheduled for autumn 2009. A projected album of the songs of Victor Jara and Violeta Parra would also remain unrealized.
This also sucks, both Jara and Parra are songwriters I admire and the idea of Lhasa covering their material had me hyped. Really hoping they eventually release something off of this project.

De Cara a La Pared is my favorite song of hers... probably because it was the first song I heard of her, her voice and the arrangements are so good you don't have to know Spanish to enjoy it.

― moullet, Sunday, 25 December 2016 12:17 (nine years ago)
did you ever see her live, Moka?
― memories of a cruller (unregistered), Sunday, 25 December 2016 16:56 (nine years ago)
Nope :( one of my biggest regrets. I did met her and exchanged like two sentences with her... she had a great smile. I went to see her when she visited Zacatecas back in 2006 which is like one hour away from my city. She was playing for free in the city's cultural festival they have every year but I was late. One of my friends, Penny, was in charge of booking artists for the cultural events in my city, Aguascalientes (don't know how you call it in english but it's a government office that coordinate cultural events) and she got me in for the press event in her hotel afterwards.
The brief interaction was me shaking hands with her, asking for a hug which made her smile (she did hug me) and I told her that La Llorona got me through a particularly hard time in my life (she smiled at that too... like a grin). I was so happy to see her face to face that I froze and didn't want to take too much time so it was probably two minutes or so. I hated myself for not making it to the concert.
