retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

new (and final) yellow swans album is pretty good. very drifty shoegeezer noise. stoners should rejoice.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 January 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

is this the first time i mention i saw their last ever gig?

plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 9 January 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

what's that called Scott? I thought their last one came out a while ago

rizzx, Saturday, 9 January 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

it's called Going Places. on Type Recordings. apparently the vinyl version is gonna come with a completely different cd of unreleased stuff. sooooo, i'd buy that if you are a fan.

scott seward, Saturday, 9 January 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

oh nice, wasn't aware of that one! thanks

rizzx, Saturday, 9 January 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

kevin drumm just posted a new album on his blog:
http://recreationalpanick.blogspot.com/2009/12/kevin-drumm-lights-out.html

it is AWESOME. the loooooong barely-there, high-pitched tone bath part is so cool.

original bgm, Monday, 11 January 2010 14:54 (fifteen years ago)

and click around the rest of the blog too. the latest post says he's repressed the s/t and second cds. I picked up second. (already have the s/t.)

obviously belongs to a much older thread BUT... i've been listening to a lot of Prurient recently and seriously the dude kicks up some REALLY FUCKING COOL noise, but it's so ruined by emo bullshit "women suck" wailing. i want to find a way to remove his vocals from all of his jams. seriously, the guy very frequently hits on the perfect sound for me. just can't handle his awful, uh, pontificating.

circa1916, Sunday, 28 March 2010 11:21 (fifteen years ago)

What albums are you listening to? Am I lucky that most of the stuff I've heard by him has vocals that are basically distorted into incomprehensibility?

drinkin a carton of peace juice (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 28 March 2010 11:24 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know, i've got like a dozen albums, EPs, and singles on the iTunes and i usually listen to them shuffled. Cocaine Death (not the single, but the comp. of some sort) has been in heavy rotation and that is kind of egregious in that respect.

as if on cue right now, my girlfriend wakes up all hazy and mumbles "what are you listening to? it sounds loud and scary." <3 <3 <3

circa1916, Sunday, 28 March 2010 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

cocaine death is the only solo prurient I own, and yeah, otm.

also have the kevin drumm/prurient collabo disc. it's... decent.

drumm/prurient live set at no fun fest was 100% killer, tho.

show tonight at grey matter books in hadley. should be good.

Jooklo Duo, Flaherty/Nace, Jow Jow, Supernaturelle

Friday, April 16, 2010
Time: 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Location: Grey Matter Books
Street: 47 East Street
City/Town: Hadley, MA

scott seward, Friday, 16 April 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

About halfway through, Moore and Nace put their guitars down and let the kids have at them. He handed a metal file to a young girl and she asked,"What can I do?" When he said "Anything you want," it was clear the day was going to get even better.

so glad someone put up a decent video of this brilliant performance (I wasn't at this particular venue but this is pretty much what I saw in Atlanta):

also:

but part of the joy of prurient is him mumbling things like "I just feel..... like everything that comes out of my mouth.... is wrong"!!!!!

history tayne (crüt), Saturday, 15 May 2010 08:15 (fifteen years ago)

so like all the stuff that would have come from noise type scenes that ive been listening to this year is so mellow and new-agey. that dolphins into the phuture band is so k-hole transcendentalism, but i wish some of this stuff got a little more brutal, dont really have the stomach for any power violence stuff anymore tho

yeah, it's on lasse marhaug's picadisk label. up to the same high standards as his previous sets. check it out here:
http://lassemarhaug.no/picadisk/pica019.html

like I said, I'm kind of stuck on the first disc (and the disintegration set, heh) and I've only formally listened to the first two. but I'm really looking forwarding to diving into the rest.

CD1. Lights Out
New album of necro acoustic material recorded 2006-2008.

CD2. Malaise
Reissue of the limited edition double cassette previously released on Hospital Productions in 2009.

CD3. Decrepit
Previously unreleased material from 1998-1999 and 2008 + reissue of Drumm's tracks from split LP with 2673 on Kitty Play Records (2005) + the limited edition LP on Dilemma Records (2008).

CD4. No Edit
New album of prepared guitar material recorded in 2009.

CD5. Organ
First full lenght release of this classic track heard in edited form on the "Comedy" album. This is the full 55 minute version as recorded by Jim O'Rourke in 1996. Believed to have been lost for years, but recently discovered.

original bgm, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 17:47 (fourteen years ago)

as for lights out, KD leaked an mp3 of this one late last year, so I was already familiar. but it's been nice really spending some time with it in a home listening setup. there are some KILLER high frequency tones on this one in ryoji ikeda/maryanne amacher/EAI style where your position in relation to the speakers changes what you're hearing.

dude has serious range.

original bgm, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

Meat Puppets had a track on the Monitor LP. Just plonked in the middle of side 2.

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

That set looks AWESOME.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

from the meat puppets website:

We spent most of the summer at Laurie and Steve’s house in Van Nuys, where we received a crash course in trash culture. Soon we were digging Charles Manson, Annette Funicello records, and dinner fished from the bins behind the corner grocery store.

One day, Laurie asked us to record a song for their album. Though Monitor were nominally “punk,” their material tended towards the atmospheric. They had only one song that “thrashed,” and they could barely play it. Anyway, she said, they liked how we did it better. As payment, Monitor offered to finance the recording and release of a Meat Puppets EP on their label.

So we got up early one day, had a nice breakfast at Denny’s, and drove to a studio in Silver Lake. Much to our amazement, the engineer was Ed Barger, who’d recorded Devo’s first singles. Monitor’s gear was already set up, so all we had to do was plug in and get comfortable. We nailed Monitor’s song “Hair” in one take, as well as five of our own. We saw when we’d finished that everyone in the control room was in hysterics.

(e_3) (Edward III), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

this too

The Meat Puppets will always owe a huge debt to Monitor, who took us under their wing back when we first started visiting Los Angeles. They put us up at their house, got us gigs, fed us, and even released our first record, the “In A Car” EP. They also invited us to play on their album. Our version of their song “Hair” appears on the reissue of our first album, but unfortunately the record itself is out of print. (You can find an article I wrote about it in “Lost in the Grooves: Scram’s Capricious Guide to the Music You Missed“. )

(e_3) (Edward III), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

the LAFMS gig sounds amazing. everybody shld see hijokaidan at least once in their lives.

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

gonna buy the shit out of that Drumm box. Are there liner notes and stuff?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 16 June 2010 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

nah, not really. pretty minimal presentation but there are notes on what type of gear was used to create the material, etc.

also has a nice booklet with lots of pics of a totally busted apartment... presumably KD's? it's suitably grim.

amazing documentary on some really cool noize dudes & broads in japan. almost entirely consists of performance footage, all of which is of extremely high quality, & also some round table discussion & reminiscence of 90s noize scene bw them all. the performances are p astounding & make up the vast majority of the film, the chats are equal parts pretentious bumbling, and endearingly dumb & beautiful simple truths of music and life. can't really recommend this highly enough really inspiring & beautiful

flopson, Monday, 31 January 2011 03:20 (fourteen years ago)

Do we need a noise 2011 thread? w/r/t Prurient discussion upthread, I have found most of that material not to my liking. I have a really poor developed concept that there is "punk" noise and "goth" noise (there is other kinds of noise too), and Prurient always struck me as "goth" noise and I couldn't really deal with it. So I know that's stupid but that's how I process things sometime.
