Rotten Apples is a greatest hits compilation album by the Smashing Pumpkins. In the U.S., it was released in 2001 together with Judas Ø. The album's concluding track, "Untitled", was The Pumpkins' final recording before their breakup.

The title of the album is the namesake of a Pumpkins B-side that was released on the "Tonight, Tonight" single. Peaking at #31 in the U.S., the album has—as of May 2005—sold 729,000 units.

i wanted to listen to some Smashing Pumpkins today for some reason. decided to do a poll since i was going to throw them on.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

It's weird to learn that Soma and Mayonaise weren't released as a singles, since I've heard them so much on the radio. In lieu of those, I'll pick Rhinocerous.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

torn between "Drown" and "Cherub Rock," maybe "Tonight Tonight" too

some dude, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 02:08 (fifteen years ago)

cherub rock edging 1979 imo

i am one

I realize they have better songs, but I'm voting for "Untitled" so it won't go voteless. It's really good. One of my long-time favorite bands, though, these guys. I love pretty much every song on here.

I think I've mentioned before on ILX that Machina is my fav Pumpkins album... right?

"ava adore". love that song, love that album.

original bgm, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

Siamese Dream is the only Pumpkins album I really like, and of the three tracks representing it here Cherub Rock is the best.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

"Real Love" is a great Machina II track that is on this comp for no discernible reason.

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

also thank god they never reunited right

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:18 (fifteen years ago)

Just listened to "Drown" last night -- so very good and epic and beautiful. It gets my vote, narrowly over "cherub rock"

the architecture of horniness (askance johnson), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

I voted Beardsley nipples video!

girl moves (Abbott), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:49 (fifteen years ago)

drown over cherub rock here too.

t0dd swiss, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

The more gothier they are in the video, the better the song from that album.

Ava Adore>>>>>Perfect

Tonight, Tonight>>>Zero>>>Bullet With Butterfly Wings>>>1979 (actually I wld switch the last two if my monochromatic overseers wld let me)

Stand Inside Your Love>>>Everlasting Gaze

It's so simple!

Rhinoceros just barely over Drown

Big K.R.U.T. (Curt1s Stephens), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

also thank god they never reunited right

Technically they didn't.. the current state of "Smashing Pumpkins" is essentially a continuation of Zwan.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

Not even, because Jimmy's gone. So now it's Billy's solo album with more prog and less synths (an awful development!)

Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 04:54 (fifteen years ago)

Unfortunately its not the full version of "Drown" here, just the 4 and a half minute radio edit, so its missing most of the epicness. Given that, I'll have to vote for "Cherub Rock".

still voting drown, but the radio edit pales heavily against the singles s/t version

What a lame compilation without 'I Am One' and 'Bury Me'

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 11:14 (fifteen years ago)

also thank god they never reunited right

Major LOLs. First reunion tour was really entertaining, though! Great shows (I went to two of them).

I thought the subheader was a joke at first.

da croupier, Thursday, 7 January 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

kinda can't believe starla didn't make it
witholding my vote!

Meteor Crater (jdchurchill), Thursday, 7 January 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

kinda can't believe starla didn't make it

if the A-side to the "I Am One" single didn't make it, why should the B-side????

Big K.R.U.T. (Curt1s Stephens), Thursday, 7 January 2010 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

cuz it's my favorite

Meteor Crater (jdchurchill), Thursday, 7 January 2010 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

amazing how many of these songs i like considering how often the singer sounds like a troll slipping into a hot tub

da croupier, Friday, 8 January 2010 01:50 (fifteen years ago)

for me, it really is a toss-up b/w the first four, but I'll toss another one in the hat for "Drown."

$hatner's Bassoon (Pillbox), Friday, 8 January 2010 01:57 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 10 January 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

"Tonight Tonight". No competition as long as "Porcelina" isn't an option (and, well, it was no single, thus no hit)

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Sunday, 10 January 2010 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

"Cherub Rock," Siamese Dream is still awesome.

slagterm, Sunday, 10 January 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

i voted for "Rhinoceros" because "Drown" got enough votes.

add 'tristessa' to that top 4 and you have my top 5 SP

Glad to see "Untitled" get two votes! I mean, it really didn't deserve many more, but its actually a pretty great song and definitely the best single to come after Adore.

you gone float up with it (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 11 January 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

Siva and Zero both got kinda robbed

Big K.R.U.T. (Curt1s Stephens), Monday, 11 January 2010 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I really like Siva, I'm suprised it got no kudos (I didnt see this poll til just now)

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Monday, 11 January 2010 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't ROCKET a single?

piscesx, Monday, 11 January 2010 09:57 (fifteen years ago)

it was...this isn't the kind of GH that collects every song released a single, though, obv.

these results are so correct it's almost scary.

some dude, Monday, 11 January 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

Really surprised at the strong "Rhinoceros" showing, otherwise this is pretty OTM.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 11 January 2010 15:14 (fifteen years ago)

awwww, had i known "perfect" would get a goose-egg i would have voted for it. sometimes i even prefer it to 1979

da croupier, Monday, 11 January 2010 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

Rhinoceros was the first definitive Pumpkins song imo
