Is Burzum's a concept album about being lonely in jail?

Doran, Thursday, 7 January 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

I should add that I'm not going to believe that's the real artwork until I see it, in real life.

We're just getting the Cobra Starship over here - they have a song a-listed on Radio One apparently :/

Yeah, it's a bit too good to be true I guess.

i went to see fennesz a couple months ago, and cocorosie was playing the same venue, outdoor stage instead of indoor (emo's in austin tx), and there's a common waiting area for the two stages. anyway... cocorosie fans wear costumes. a lot. and most of them are as completely baffling and hideous as those on the album cover. i'm not kidding.

it's intentionally bad though so i suppose they have succeeded in what they were going for.

The thing is, there are actually record covers that are intentionally ugly yet manage to make that ugliness look kinda cool or at least interesting. But the Cocorosie cover goes one step beyond that and comes back as merely ugly, with nothing cool or interesting about it.

I actually think this is good.

While I'm disagreeing, Pitchfork's feature includes MGMT's album and I personally think it's one of the best covers of the year. I'd go as far as buying the vinyl version for a couple of dollats only to look at it regardless of how awful its inner contents are.

On the Fact list I'd disagree with the Gorillaz one, not precisely good but I like the diorama thing, the typography not so much.

That Games cover actually intrigues me a bit, in that nearly all the flags I know there seem to be of notable disputed/defunct/potential-separatist entities (Northern Cyprus, Taiwan, Corsica, South Vietnam, the GDR, Kosovo, um the United Suvadive Republic)... except that there are regular Turkish, Mongolian and Czech* flags there as well.

*) OK I guess it can be seen as the flag of the defunct Czechoslovakia
