Synths don't often have anywhere to get a good solid grip which can make swinging them difficult, and you're more likely to let one slip out of your grasp, whereas the shape of a guitar lends itself beautifully to savagely and repeatedly applying a beatdown until such time as the body parts company with the neck.

The real problem with guitar synths is that they fall into the same category as the keytar, the Chapman Stick, the Moog Guitar, and now the Eigenharp. They are all good ideas on paper, but seemingly all the people who play one a) look like dorks, b) take themselves way too seriously, and c) make terrible music.
