Killing Joke 13: Feast Of Fools (New Album Thread)

Do you know what? I've just opened the Pandora's box of putting "Killing Joke" into the ILM search function and came to the conclusion that a, life's too short to figure out which is the right thread to post this in; b, even if it weren't too short some kind of catastrophic Being John Malkovich/Event Horizon event might unfold if I pick the wrong one and c, there's obviously a lot of KJ love on here - so sue me.

I met Jaz and Youth on Xmas Eve to listen to new tracks from the new album. As much as this constitutes spam, I thought Joke fans would want to read about a new song based on an ABBA loop and how the original line up have been getting on.

Killing Joke interview here

i would like to see killing joke live.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 22:00 (fifteen years ago)

Jaz sounds like Lemmy in that song imo

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 22:17 (fifteen years ago)

Quite so.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

Love it!

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

Well, don't get too excited. Credible reports suggest the the album and tour have been -- WAIT FOR IT -- postponed.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

Well, postponed is better than cancelled. That song's a good teaser, that's for sure.

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

True.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 3 March 2010 12:09 (fifteen years ago)

It's a great song, but why does he call Saturn 'a wanker'?

moley, Thursday, 4 March 2010 06:31 (fifteen years ago)

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

The new EP, "In Excelsis" is out but I'm sure not paying 25 pounds for vinyl I don't want! And it's on Amazon UK in digital format but not on Amazon US. Annoying.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 23 June 2010 02:47 (fifteen years ago)

For those paltry few of you who care.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 25 June 2010 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

Any idea if this will be released on iTunes in America? The band's website mentions iTunes as a format, but it certainly isn't showing up over here yet.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 25 June 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

The band's website, sadly, is not really dependable source of info.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 25 June 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

No other thoughts on the new EP? Really? It's an interesting amalgam of recent material with a bit of return to a more 'singing' style for Jaz. I like.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

"Kali Yuga" makes me ecstatic.

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)

My face just got melted off by "In Excelsis". And "Kali Yuga" makes me ecstatic too.

...and it's superb.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 11 September 2010 12:00 (fifteen years ago)

I don't expect ILM in its gestalt to appreciate it, but there are some DAMN fine moments on the new record, one of them being this...

Preach on, Brother Alex.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 11 September 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

Goddamn, "Honour The Fire" gives me goosebumps. Literally. This might be the one song to be played at my funeral. Seriously. What a monster this album is!

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Friday, 17 September 2010 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

"The Raven King," "Here Comes the Singularity" and "The Great Cull" are all entirely perfect. "This World Hell" and -- sadly -- "Honour the Fire" don't do it for me.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 3 October 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

I agree entirely - except "Honour The Fire"! Wow, that one really blows me away. What's missing for you? Frankly everytime I've listened to this album it's gotten better for me.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 4 October 2010 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

"Honor the Fire" just hasn't sunk in for -- likewise "This World Hell" (which is stymied by its chorus). Love Love Love everything else on the record, tho'. Very excited to hear it performed live.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 10 October 2010 13:40 (fifteen years ago)

Jeff T. gave it the seal of approval in conversation yesterday as well (the album, not any song in particular). Will investigate.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 October 2010 15:10 (fifteen years ago)

"This World Hell" is the one I like best, stymied by some others, like "In Excelsis". I don't think I'll end up liking it as much as the last two, but it's got a of good stuff.

bendy, Sunday, 10 October 2010 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

if I'm a debut/What's THIS For...! purist am I going to be moved by this record?

Wow @ this interview! http://thequietus.com/articles/04796-jaz-coleman-on-killing-joke-and-absolute-dissent

There I was thinking Britain didn't have a credible socialist/anti-authoritarian movement. I'm gonna have to listen to this band a lot more...

acoleuthic, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

Microwave towers and chemtrails?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

yeah great album

Ha, um I am taking a few details with a pinch of salt (for now) - the gist is there though

acoleuthic, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

I mean, one hopes he isn't a 9/11 truther or w/e but there's a lot of stuff I agree with ('random acts of kindness' is a great way of putting it)

acoleuthic, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

lj you're new to jaz. he is batshit insane & spent 12/31/99 hiding in Iceland waiting for the y2k virus to destroy us all iirc.

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

lol ok

but I agree with quite a lot of his sentiments! if not his bold clams

acoleuthic, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:41 (fifteen years ago)

plus this album kicks ass

acoleuthic, Sunday, 10 October 2010 19:41 (fifteen years ago)

There should always be more bold clams.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 October 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

istr he has spent a considerable time on stage over the past few years thanking Michael Meacher for agreeing with him. (nb Michael Meacher does not agree with him) Jaz has put tickets on the door for him and everything.

It would have been better with burger sauce (aldo), Sunday, 10 October 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

he is batshit insane & spent 12/31/99 hiding in Iceland waiting for the y2k virus to destroy us all iirc.

This is entirely incorrect.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 10 October 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

Well, the batshit insane part is correct, but the Iceland incident dates back to the about 1982.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 10 October 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, Empire Song on TotP has a guy in a diver suit because Jaz is in Iceland.

It would have been better with burger sauce (aldo), Sunday, 10 October 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

I apologize to Jaz & to the fire generally for misstating the date & cause of his batshit exile in Iceland

drawl the whine (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Sunday, 10 October 2010 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

this has some of those NiN/Aphex Twin arpeggio chord changes I like

This album has gotten better over time, astonishingly great. I find something to love in all their albums but, goddamn, has an original-lineup-reunion album ever been so good?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

They're incredibly good live. Been to see them four times with the current line up.
