worst Public Enemy album title

worst of the worst or "best" of the worst. Whichever you prefer. I'm omitting Yo! Bum Rush the Show, [i]It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back & Fear of a Black Planet b/c those album titles are clearly brilliant. The rest, not so much (I do think There's a Poison Goin On is actually a pretty great title, tho I do see how someone could see otherwise & I'm on the fence about Apocalypse '91, which wouldn't be so bad except for the pun, and that pun being the tipping point toward a loose and unwholesome relationship b/w Chuck D & puns in general).

Honorable mention: Confrontation Camp, Chuck's one-off metal project w/ Prof. Griff.

How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul?

freezoni appleby 2010 (Curt1s Stephens), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 21:30 (sixteen years ago)

Whoops - I meant to include Apocalypse 91, for the reasons stated above, but I don't think anyone would have voted for it anyway, considering its competition. Write it it, if you like.

New Whirl Odor is something even Ministry would reject. How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul? is like She Sells Sea Shells Down By The Sea Shore. Kinda fun if you get it right.

New Whirl Odor achieves the impossible by being even worse than Muse Sick. It also sounds like a toilet-cleaning product.

these albums are full of good stuff, you fucked up

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 21 January 2010 01:43 (sixteen years ago)

Muse Sick was OK but painfully long and over-stuffed, and Poison just sounded like there was a thick layer of pudding over the top of everything. I gave each a farewell listen, sail on, valiant soldiers!

Your Sinclair magazine (sic), Thursday, 21 January 2010 01:48 (sixteen years ago)

Here's a quick album guide to late era PE

Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age (1994)
This is slept on. Full of really interesting stuff with live instruments and fun Flav bits. You gotta remember this is a band used to working with samples as instruments who had that taken away from them, so they found chaos and wildness in other ways.

He Got Game (1998)
REALLY slept-on. Lush with choirs and fake Premier beats. Should have really been a blueprint for 40+ dudes making rap records, but alas it tanked

There's A Poison Goin On (1999)
Half decent electro-squiggles. Very minimalist and 99-era cyberpunk. Some really winners hidden on here.

Revolverlution (2002)
New Whirl Odor (2005)
These both kind sound like of like Immortal Technique albums. Mostly avoidable

How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul? (2007)
Half of this is impossible to get through. The other half has some of their best material in years. "Harder tHan You Think" should have really been a hot single with some serious play in hip-hop circles. Easily their best track of the decade

er.. upload link, rather. My devotion to the continuing PE discog stopped after He Got Game, which was well-reviewed at the time, but really was just kind of there & boring PE is even worse than *bad* PE. I would def be interested in a guided tour to the bad pun era.

I like Flav's "What What" from "Poison" a whole lot. Put that on many mixtapes, def. no masterpiece and it has the "Funky Drummer" beat but still has some charm.

Even in Spain they knew Flavor's name
In Japan they know I'm nice in the game
We maintain, yo brothers feel the vibe
We did the first album and it came out fly

Guess it's all in the delivery.

Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age

come on people, this is the worst album title ever created

Vajazzle My Nazzle (HI DERE), Thursday, 21 January 2010 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

Yep. Or close enough.

Soul/Soulless is enjoyably silly, and Revolverlution suggests a Beatles cover band, so it's passable. New Whirl Odor stinks and Poison is too wtf? to be awful, but just barely.

Their BEST album title is still It Takes a Nation of Millions to Make Us Multiplatinum (courtesy Xhuxk)

Race Against Rockism (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 21 January 2010 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

I prefer It'll Take Millions in Plastic Surgery to Make Me Black by Kid 606.

Vajazzle My Nazzle (HI DERE), Thursday, 21 January 2010 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

Power To The People And The Beats was also a really clunky title for their most recent hits comp

mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 21 January 2010 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

its crazy how weak their titles can be, chuck was an awesome rhetorician at his best. its almost as if they got away with a bad title for muse sick, and just wondered, how far can we push this?

anyways when I'm chopped, dip always kicks my ass lol (stevie), Thursday, 21 January 2010 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

I would buy that if any of the other titles were nearly as bad as Muse Sick... but as it stands, it seems more to me like "oh shit, we got away with the worst title in the world, let's just stop trying"

I actually like Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age and How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul? quite a bit, they're really good albums.

Revolverlution is interesting - an album that's not designed like an album but rather like a package of tracks that were downloaded off some file hosting service or streamed on some random YouTube playlist, where said anonymous uploader inserted tracks that normally wouldn't get sequenced into an album. Taken on its own terms, it seemed pretty good, but it's been a while since I listened to it.
