Editors, or Taking Advantage of a Delayed US Release Date to Give a Great 2090 Album 2010 Eligibility

Editors' In This Light and On This Evening just finally came out in the US (complete with all the UK deluxe-edition bonus tracks, to my surprise!). The Back Room didn't do much for me, but I warmed to An End Has a Start quite a bit, over a long period of time. I've been listening to the new one for a while, too, but deliberately not quite focusing on it, saving that for the new-release doldrums in January.

And OK, now I'm letting it sink in. Ah. Ah. This is the neo-dark-new-wave record all those Interpol records were supposed to be, and "Bricks and Mortar" is my first favorite single of the new year.

Who's with me?

It sounds like the future! That "Bricks and Mortar" song is good, thanks for the tip; I think I'm waiting for the CD to arrive at the library.

Editors, or Why You Should Have One Look Over Your Thread Title Before You Post It, Because "Spell-Check" Doesn't Know Shit About Numbers...

Man, maybe I need to give this a chance, but I was completely unimpressed and actively turned off by my first listen. It was like listening to an even more boring She Wants Revenge. And I actively liked the first two Editors records. The only track that did anything for me was that bonus track at the end that kept building and building and building.

Ack, She Wants Revenge is awful, I'd never compare the Editors to them! I liked the first two better, but will give it a re-listen. It got some good reviews and some bad ones. I thought it was fine, just nothing jumped out.

I think this may be an example of where the bonus tracks kind of hurt the album's initial impression, as they make the whole thing a little too long and unfocused. Ought to listen to the album proper, without them, a few times, and then add them on. Or, even better, try just the first two songs, by themselves, in headphones or in a car while driving around at night or something.

Well I did just do part of that, listened to the first two songs on a quick trip in the car and they sounded not bad. I think you may be on to something with the bonus tracks, but I feel like the album proper sagged big time at the end as well.

I was half kidding about the She Wants Revenge comparison, it was just that many of the songs struck me as more style than substance (a crime easily leveled at SWR).
