OK, I screwed this up big time when I typed 10-28 rather than 01-28 into the end-date. I'm re-upping it and deleting the earlier thread, so please re-vote. Thanks.

God I love that Sunshine Anderson song. Easily that.

Completely missed Get Ur Freak On. Still might have voted Sunshine, though not as easily.

I voted Missy, also like City High, Lil' Mo, OutKast, QB's Finest ft. Nas, R. Kelly ft. Jay-Z, Sunshine Anderson, Trick Daddy.
I expect Coldplay, Destiny's Child, India.Arie, Janet, Nelly Furtado, and Project Pat to have adherents here. So lots of possibilities.

I'd like to forget that a good number of these songs ever existed

SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN. I would've voted for Missy second.

"Take It to da House" put the biggest smile on my face upon reading the title, so that's what I voted for

shiiiiit this one is tough
my actual #1 is "so fresh, so clean" and the nostalgia alone from the city high joint might make me cry, but uh... WAH WAH CHICKEN CHICKEN
i mean really

god damn "take it to da house" is such a good song -- that was the first song where i realized that area codes were a big deal in terms of regional representation and what not. when i was 12 i def thought "more punch than a bowl of juice" was on some "sneaky punchlines" shit

so much good stuff -- "superwoman", "cross the border", "oochie wally", "yellow" -- i even fuck with the train song

there needs to be an elimination style tournament for this group

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:32 (sixteen years ago)

oh man this is such a great list. ;_; wish music could be half as good this year.

actually tempted to request line. oh for the days when fergie wasn't in bep.

dumb mack maine follows (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:47 (sixteen years ago)

of the songs here that i've heard, "survivor" is def my least favorite -- i pretty much hate every single off that album

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:51 (sixteen years ago)

i once willingly listened to uncle kracker

waka shame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

lotta clearly great songs that need no help so I'm gonna stump for the amazing and sorely underrated "Maybe I Deserve"

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:13 (sixteen years ago)

This is surprisingly good. Love the Sunshine Anderson, Destiny's Child, Outkast, Black Eyed Peas, QB's Finest, Coldplay and Janet but voting Missy.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

"heard it all before" =============== "freak on"

not to mention "chickenheads". god bless project pat.

these were good times, people!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

If Get Ur Freak On hadn't been there, I might have had to vote for Yellow.

Parenthetical Grillz, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

thank god it was then

Shower to the sheeple! (jjjusten), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

I would object to "Yellow" a lot less if it was sung by someone else and if the lyrics were tweaked to make it sound less like a tribute to watersports.

Rev's point still stands

HI DERE, Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

it's possible that a big chunk from any Billboard Hot 100 looks grisly, but fuck me the first part of the decade was gruesome

Also:

Black Eyed Peas ft. Macy Gray - Request Line -

Never heard dthis.

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

I am trying to figure out whether I'd rather be forced to listen to Train or Uncle Kracker and it's giving me an ulcer

won't you be my GAPDY / come and make it rain down on NME (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

my overall top ten: Heard It All Before, Drops Of Jupiter, Get Ur Freak On, Superwoman, Maybe I Deserve, I'm Like A Bird, Chickenhead, Fiesta, Lay Low, All For You

this is by far the least gruesome month Matos has polled yet.

My problem with "All For You" is Janet's voice, which seriously collapses at one point.

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

what do you have against "Superwoman"? or "Maybe I Deserve"? or "Lay Low"?

If people talked about "Fiesta" the way they talk about "Ignition" I would understand R. Kelly fandom a lot better.

I have always appreciated that the subject of City High's "What Would You Do" is a stripper getting harangued by a guy who was her classmate in junior high. How shitty a night would that be? Not only is your child's father addicted to crack, wherever he is, and you are apparently also working as a hooker to support your child, but you have to get preached at by some dude who used to stare at your legs in eighth grade social studies class.
