I've been listening to Exhibit C nonstop. Anyone else into this guy?
― Back Like That (makeitpop), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 00:44 (sixteen years ago)
yep. recommend http://www.gillespetersonworldwide.com/podcasts/jay_electronica_podcast.mp3 good interview & music, shambolic late night feel, includes pre-act 1, act 1 and the act 2 previews, basically sampler of everything up to before Exhibit A. First 20 mins or so is straight music if you don't like talky talky.

yah the podcast above starts with that track then goes into Act 1:Eternal Sunshine (minus the original piano intro with just blaze and erica hagiography which is a bit much) it's gr8

i followed tone treazure on twitter―she does the hook on "Victory Is In My Clutches" (also Rick Ross "Valley of Death")―but got fed up with lots of jesusfreak tweets then unfollowed after some "what's up with fags trying to rep the kingdom" type of shit i mean enough's enough
― zvookster, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 01:22 (sixteen years ago)
just realized that cutty's talking about the "victory" mix that somebody put together.

finally getting into "Exhibit C" in more than an abstracted "this is good, but I don't feel like listening to it" way
― she got dumps like a rage, rage (The Reverend), Friday, 19 February 2010 07:24 (fifteen years ago)
I'd completely avoided him purely on the basis of his name but Exhibit C is really great, last verse especially.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
the production on 'victory' is a lot more novel and interesting in its use of melodies than i first noticed. i'll probably love it soon.

finally got around to the Victory mixtape and it is officially dope as fuck

the 'victory' that i downloaded wasn't tagged, and the online tracklist i found didn't match up i didn't think? and it was 27 tracks long so i didn't feel like tagging. anyway can someone link me to a tagged version?
― corrine bailey the chef (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:42 (fifteen years ago)
i get over the problem of his name by calling him Jay Elect and just pretending that's actually his name.
one i got was one mp3!it's all old stuff anyhow xpost
― triumph of the will the insult comic dog (zvookster), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
I just tagged it from the tracklist I found, which matched up fine. I gotta call Jay E a pretentious bastard for making a lazily untagged ziptape into some contrived "song titles aren't important" thing.
― grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
he didn't make it
― triumph of the will the insult comic dog (zvookster), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's some random website that did it

I got over any problems with his name when I discovered he wasn't some Cool Kids-style fashion rapper.
― grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
Dj Furious Styles and DJ Dub put together a compilation of Jay Electronica’s works unlike “Who the F*ck is Jay Electronica” these tracks where submitted by Jay Electronica himself.

haha they sound like douches. that's their excuse, not his. think it's bullshit that he submitted the tracks too.
― triumph of the will the insult comic dog (zvookster), Sunday, 21 March 2010 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
like the mos def verse cut from a shade 45 exclusive snippet & google eyes live & some features were submitted by the artist? and after releasing everything for free for three years he puts "exhibit C" on itunes and then puts it on a mixtape while it's still troubling the itunes charts, with just blaze going ham on nahright for putting up the mp3? and for his first sanctioned mixtape ever he picks some no-marks and never mentions it anywhere?
― triumph of the will the insult comic dog (zvookster), Sunday, 21 March 2010 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

― Aerosol, Thursday, 25 March 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
Jay needs to do a decent full length or tape man
Cannot wait for the new Gibbs - all the leaks are awesome !!!
Am interested in seeing what Jay does but am hammering miles more pill and gibbs at the minute
― out comes stanley, Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:01 (fifteen years ago)
i don't make a huge distinction between mixtapes and albums in rap these days, especially ones like 'victory,' (no dj drops, from what i can tell nearly all original beats, high quality throughout). doesn't bug me that it isn't tagged or the tracks don't have names, either.
― facepalm death (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

― Matt DC, Monday, 15 November 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
yeah some people are pissed, joined the "darkside"/"illumunati"/he "abandoned" the "underground"/reactionary bs - plus Diddy feels "betrayed" or some shit
and yeah I think the album is on the way - he just dropped 2 new songs which is like a record for him
― The Brainwasher² = (The Brainwasher) X (The Brainwasher), Monday, 15 November 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)
The fact that Shiny Suit Theory features The-Dream, Jay-Z and, erm, Charlotte Gainsbourg is instructive enough.

So far this sounds p much exactly what I'd expect a Jay Electronica record to sound like, which is good, and also it sounds like it could just as easily have been made 10 years ago. Also weird how much Jay-Z is on this.

As far as all the NOI stuff, I have complicated feelings about it, as I always have. I've been harassed by NOI members, told I wasn't a real Jew, etc. I don't like it but it also isn't a threat to me.
