30. DJ Deep - City to City [BBE, 2005]The French jock connects the dots between Detroit, Chicago and New York.
very happy this made it
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:08 (sixteen years ago)
Immer at No 1.
Omar-S at 49.
Joris Voorn, Surgeon and M.I.A. somewhere around the middles.
And no James Lavelle/Pat Mahoney....
― De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)
no mayer fabric either
― Michael B, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:11 (sixteen years ago)
can't really argue with no's 1 & 2
interesting that there doesn't seem to be a mix that solely represents minimal at its peak. i'm thinking mid 00s stuff like kreucht & fleucht or pass your bedtime. not to say there's some kind of anti-minimal agenda at ra or anything, that would be ridiculous and unfounded. it's just that these are some of my favourite mixes ever
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:24 (sixteen years ago)
Volume two is like the third or fourth worst As Heard on Radio Soulwax mix.
― Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:29 (sixteen years ago)
no they're all equally as shit as each other i think you'll find

xxpost:but only one thats commercially available?
― De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:33 (sixteen years ago)
No Avalanches - 'Gimix', no etc.
― Spencer Chow, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:45 (sixteen years ago)
xxxxpost: what about the Magda one (I haven't heart it, but from what I know of it)
I won a copy of the Omar-S fabric mix a month ago, but it hasn't arrived and I'm fearing if it ever will!
I can well accept Immer at #1, although I kind of prefer MM's Fabric mix.
― EDB, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:51 (sixteen years ago)
are you referring to james murphy and pat mahoney's fabriclive mix? cause that deserves to be here, totally. list is also strangely missing 'sarcastic disco' by dj harvey, which made FACT's list of the best proper albums of the '00s iirc
― psychgawsple, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:51 (sixteen years ago)
this list is pretty solid tho, i was definitely super stoked on at least half of these at one point or another
― psychgawsple, Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:53 (sixteen years ago)
xpost: yup, the fabric live one... so, so great
― De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Thursday, 28 January 2010 01:53 (sixteen years ago)
oh yeah... i seee. Lavelle / Murphy.... my bad.

NO Eskimo volume 1...
or 2...
or 3...
― jed_, Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:01 (sixteen years ago)
no beatles - the red album
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:04 (sixteen years ago)
i'm so glad people stopped making those mixes that have like 80 different songs. it's like the equivalent of asking someone to make you a mix tape but instead they burn you cdrs of their entire hard drive
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:07 (sixteen years ago)
although de9 transitions is still an all time mix 4 me
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
and straight up detroit shit vol 4
― anita bonghit (rionat), Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:18 (sixteen years ago)
Not a bad list at all. I think the biggest/most obvious absence (given Resident Advisor's focus) is M.A.N.D.Y. who should be there for at least one of the Get Physical 2nd Anniversary mix OR the first Body Language mix. But I guess 2004/2005 stuff is probably at a low-ebb of popularity after 5 years.
― Tim F, Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:40 (sixteen years ago)
the get physical 2nd anniversary cd is one of my favourite mixes ever, but you hardly ever see it mentioned. is it only popular on ilx or...? maybe it's just overshadowed by Body Language which was much bigger i guess, but they cover pretty different ground imo.
― jabba hands, Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:44 (sixteen years ago)
but yeah it's a good list overall! no complaints about no.1 certainly.
― jabba hands, Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:45 (sixteen years ago)
I think the first M.A.N.D.Y. mix is underrated by virtue of also being a label comp - i.e. assumed to be less imaginative/diverse/technically impressive (though in practice this is not at all an issue with the mix.
― Tim F, Thursday, 28 January 2010 02:57 (sixteen years ago)
Anyone know if a feature on singles or eps is coming up as well? Would love to read that one. Electronic acts tend to impress a whole lot more in single format.
― Moka, Thursday, 28 January 2010 06:34 (sixteen years ago)
Kreucht & Fleucht is definitely deserving of a spot. I'm also extremely partial to Sascha Funke - Boogy Bytes Vol. 02
― Mr. Shirts, Thursday, 28 January 2010 07:27 (sixteen years ago)
love Kreucht and Fleucht. i haven't really heard enough of the mixes list to have an opinion on it as a whole, but i thought their 100 albums list was soo great. Rhythm and Sound, Akufen, and Other People Place in the top 20 feel like such unexpected but worthy choices (but then maybe i'm just not familiar enough with "dance canon"). i see their still repping for the Shed album, though, which i have listened to like 5 times and cannot get into for the life of me
― een, Thursday, 28 January 2010 07:38 (sixteen years ago)
wow some surprising omissions...fabric 13 as pointed out, but also superpitcher's today???
most underrated mix of the 00s might be:

^^ = my favourite.Another personal favourite that's missing: Ewan Pearson's Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. _1.Other than that it's a solid list. More reflections when I have the time to read the blurbs.
― willem, Thursday, 28 January 2010 09:27 (sixteen years ago)
I can well accept Immer at #1, although I kind of prefer MM's Fabric mix.^^
on the kompakt mix front, another i would have loved to see get some love is speicher, the first one. major major eye-opener for me.
i bet taka taka barely missed the top 50 in the poll. that one meant a lot to me too. i kinda stopped buying mixes the latter half of the decade. probably something to do with the abundance and quality of mixes freely available here on the internets.
― andrew m., Thursday, 28 January 2010 15:22 (sixteen years ago)
I'm kind of amazed that I own 2 of these!
― struck through in my prime (HI DERE), Thursday, 28 January 2010 15:25 (sixteen years ago)
I was thinking about Taka Taka also.
And I think Fleucht could earn a spot, but perhaps not Kreucht?
I'm also really regretting having not picked up Dixon's Body Language mix when I saw it on sale for $7 years ago.
That Omar-S CD better fucking arrive (this would be the second time I won a CD that never arrived).
― EDB, Thursday, 28 January 2010 17:13 (sixteen years ago)
looks like they might have limited it to one artist per entry, hence no fabric 13, speicher, taka taka...
― zvookster, Thursday, 28 January 2010 17:19 (sixteen years ago)
love their one-page layout for these lists btw
― zvookster, Thursday, 28 January 2010 17:20 (sixteen years ago)
Most surprising omission for me was Triple R- Friends. That and Fabric 13. Glad to see Kreucht & Fleucht and Kiki's Boogybytes mentioned here. The high placing for Magda had me scratching my head. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it but I remember that mix boring me to tears.
― Not brilliant, but nice enough (lou), Thursday, 28 January 2010 17:38 (sixteen years ago)
Oh yeah, Friends. That deserves a spot (although to be totally honest, having heard bits of it I thought it was the best thing ever, but when I finally heard it in full I was kind of underwhelmed). I never bothered with Magda's since I was under the impression it was unremarkable.
― EDB, Thursday, 28 January 2010 18:05 (sixteen years ago)
Something that I'm not surprised isn't mentioned, but that I still LOVE is Freeform Five's Misch Masch.
― Spencer Chow, Thursday, 28 January 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)
ooh, forgot about friends
― andrew m., Thursday, 28 January 2010 22:20 (sixteen years ago)

Woah surprised and pleased to see Miura at No 1!! and Theo/Carl Craig doing so well too!
Good to see all these included, but would have wished they placed higher: Matthew Dear "Dog Days" Juan Maclean "Happy House", Benga & Coki "Night", Jürgen Paape - So Weit Wie Noch Nie Luomo - Tessio [Force Tracks, 2001]Larry Heard presents Mr. White - The Sun Can't Compare

don't you think it's wrong that the list of tracks doesn't contain:

I like all these lists, not least because I don't know a lot of the stuff on them--more to catch up on. It makes me feel better to realize that this is probably the case for a lot of people, even others who voted in the polls.

I'd like to see individual lists.
Although it's not without its idiosyncrasies, I'm amazed at how much I don't know from the tracks list, especially with earlier 00's stuff, and I'm unearthing some huge tracks, like Man with the Red Face, mmmmnhmn.
― EDB, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:45 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah Man with the red Face is great. Love the video. They started making a youtube playlist of the tracks (it's in the first few cmments) and I've been listening to it all afternoon. Some really good stuff on there!

oh didn't realize you contribute to RA, sorry Matos. big up whoever went with the one-page layouts. <3
― zvookster, Friday, 29 January 2010 18:56 (sixteen years ago)
yeah was pleased "the man with the red face" charted so high. one of those tracks that is guaranteed to make a party full of people completely lose

it's got that slightly manic, unhinged quality that seems to be absent in techno of late

and I'm ever so glad I discovered Aeroplane - Caramellas

My favorite of the lists is definitely Mixes--just a higher percentage of stuff that suits my tastes, of the stuff I know. But I like them all; they really kind of expand my understanding of what the site's proclivities are, or more to the point, were. I'm kind of surprised by all the Global Undergrounds--I think I'd largely written them off as passe once I'd gotten more into Kompakt et. al., so it'll be interesting to see/hear what I've missed. Definitely interested to contend with everything here, especially stuff I was never that hot on at the time (Druqks, for starters).

I can't see the Lex's image but I guess it must be for Kiki's Boogybytes going by later comments... and yeah. That mix is AWES goosebump stuff.
I don't really care where Ellen places (although I like her to place on these things!) but ffs I wish people would give BERLINETTE a bit more recognition???
― fndgo, Friday, 29 January 2010 22:22 (sixteen years ago)
and yeah... that Magda placing (esp. above DE9 #2????), it's got a great start and end that CD but erm.... try staying awake through the aimless, funkless, jamming around in search of a direction/groove/tune superextended middle section. Any live set of hers smokes it to a crisp, and tbh, I usually find live mixes/podcasts much inferior to properly thought through mix cd's.
― fndgo, Friday, 29 January 2010 22:36 (sixteen years ago)
I scanned the mix list really but hmmm... I don't remember Live @ Weetamix being on there?????? someone was calling for the Scifihifi of his (which is good too but not A+++) but really, if you had to buy one Luciano CD ever, or at least one absolute top 5 classic "minimal (c)00's" mix... well ummm jeez it's not a hard choice is it?

nice to see this: 67. Studio - West Coast [Information, 2006]

surprised "seeing through shadows" didn't make it. great track.

hahaha I voted for Live @ Weetamix (as an album not mix)

yeah! same could be said of the best new-to-me track i've discovered off that list, Stylus Trouble - Sputnik One. madness. although i think maybe i did hear this at some point, the breakdown triggered a vague memory flicker..
― jabba hands, Saturday, 30 January 2010 07:15 (sixteen years ago)
Stylus trouble was Pete "big love" Heller wasn't it?
Good to see blackwater rate highly as that's a classic that no one knows....
the manic unhingedness is made very apparent here.

This RA tracks list is my favorite 2000s end-of-decade list yet. So much great previously-unknown stuff I've discovered.
