He is back playing with his band in the next few days. Thoughts on this comp? Best tunes, versions, disasters etc...

Yes in kind of an heroic way. From what I understand I don't think he can vocalise actual words but he will do it anyway in his own style- making whatever sounds he can. I am sure he would hate to be characterised as heroic but there you go.

The comp is full of fantastic performances which take a few listens to reveal themselves. Peter Gutteridge's in particular jumped out at me. A number of singer-songwriter takes which don't work as well. But overall it's wonderful to hear Chris' songs work so well when handled by so many different artists.

yeah, the peter gutteridge track (amazing take on toy love's 'don't catch fire') is a real highlight.

lol there are a bunch of weird old NZ threads abt how much they hate this guy IRL, but this seems to be the best to use.
I've been trying to fill in my gaps and so I got the excellent 2-for-1 comp "Meat" CD which has both Seizure and Croaker. I've had and loved Yes!! for forever so finally checking out the companion disc Almost is a real treat, playing it now.
why the hell has the "Songs For Cleaning Guppies" record never been reissued in any form? Get in that, Flying Nun.

also - this guy has one of the worst pottymouths of any artist I follow, I have to keep radio play very tightly controlled.
