i like taylor, and i could 4give her for her singing badly b/c who cares she makes some tite songs, but i could not forgive her POOR POSTURE. she has the unslightly back hump of a septuagenarian stroke victim.

one day us ppl with bad posture are gonna take over the world and all you upright-standing motherfuckers are gonna be forced to slump in your chairs on penalty of death

pretty much, yes; if you are making money off of being a pop/country singer, you should be able to sing, kind of like every other person who was out onstage last night except for her

yo capn save-a-swift i'm just asking for "tolerably." every time she tries to sing i think "why does no one help that poor girl."

it was funny a couple years back when she was doing her "look y'all i've got an acoustic guitar and i'm covering beyoncé" schtick but at this point a little goddamn respect for the audience wouldn't be too much to ask. she's got a team of professionals and someone needs to get on that.

Am I the only one who thinks it's sort of pathetic that it's apparently okay for singers in singing-reliant genres to not be able to sing these days? I mean, I kind of lolled when industry dude was all "pay artists otherwise you will see the overall level of talent drop massively" followed up by Taylor Swift winning album of the year; didn't anyone else?

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Monday, 1 February 2010 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

i can't really tell what taylor's deal is, tbh. i mean, obviously in the studio she's autotuned up the wazoo (true: her wazoo is actually autotuned), but if you read her bio it's all, she went this place that place and another place to sing for people. she was supposedly some local karaoke star. so yeah, how can she not get at least on key?

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 1 February 2010 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

tbh i find the autotune on average taylor swift track a lot harder to listen to than anything on the urban side of the dial

velko, Monday, 1 February 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

I would guess that Swift's problem has more to do with singing before an audience. I haven't heard her records & so can't vouch for whether they're Melodyning her on every note but presumably one tries to avoid signing people who won't be able to deliver the goods live, like, ever.

The idea that people are being nitpicking perfectionists about Swift's singing is lol central, it's hardly muso posturing to say "hey, that was the wrong note...that one too, immediately after it...hey wait that was a whole verse of the wrong notes"

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Monday, 1 February 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks it's sort of pathetic that it's apparently okay for singers in singing-reliant genres to not be able to sing these days?

I dunno, isn't this kind of like the movie-stars-who-can't-act thing? having the total package minus actual talent is a show biz cliche.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 1 February 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Monday, 1 February 2010 21:21 (fifteen years ago)

i wish she sang better live too, not arguing there. but dan to say she doesn't deserve album of the year (lol like anyone 'deserves' this humor me here) because she can't sing live is retarded - i've got issues with her singing voice too, even on record a little, but it's def not a minus and her songwriting and personality and the production have always been the major (at least critical) selling points. it's an award for album of the year, and since it's not a live album it has nothing to do with her singing live

wtf lebron, that chick doesn't need a gatorade bath (k3vin k.), Monday, 1 February 2010 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

it's an award for album of the year, and since it's not a live album it has nothing to do with her singing live

otm. this is also why i still think milli vanilli should get their grammy back.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 1 February 2010 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

he didn't say she doesn't deserve to win -- just that her win came off hypocritical after the RIAA guy's speech and that she maybe should be beheaded (xpost)

I don't wear white jeans like the tight boys (some dude), Monday, 1 February 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

really they should've just given MV's grammy to the real singer(s)

I don't wear white jeans like the tight boys (some dude), Monday, 1 February 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

and then maybe they should have beheaded rob and fab.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 1 February 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

and let the real singers carry their heads on sticks during the acceptance speech, a grammy night to remember

That Bob Lefsetz guy keeps carrying on over the last day or so that Taylor's reputation is now forever shot because of her inability to sing live. I think he's being a little too dramatic.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

I also wonder if he's never actually seen her perform on television before...??

Ha ha, lots of good live albums probably have nothing to do with singing live either, tbh. (But yeah -- that Swift sang off-key a the Grammys etc. obviously in no way dimishes the worth of her album.)
