curious about this disc. was mildly bummed that the shins fired that other fellow from their band. he wound up opening a roving taco cart in new mexico! nothing wrong with that, at all, but he sounded upset about the circumstances. ANYWAY NO REFLECTION ON JAMES MERCER I SUPPOSE

Heard a promo copy from somebody at Sony at the record store I work at. It seemed alright. Kind of sounded just like James Mercer and Danger Mouse... Basically it wasn't bad but not incredibly memorable on first listen.

Like the two tracks I heard - it's on order can't wait - sounds like Shins with more texture to me

Kind of sounded just like James Mercer and Danger Mouse.

The kind of insightful commentary you can only find on ILM!

you gone float up with it (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 19:43 (fifteen years ago)

Well I meant it didn't sound like much more than that. You know!

Evan, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 03:56 (fifteen years ago)

couldnt they found a more banal name than Broken Bells?

Zeno, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

Danger Shins, maybe.

i listened to The Radio Dept. new one tonight (which i surprisingly liked) and Local Natives (which i loved). wanted to play one more new thing so i threw on this album but it left me cold. reminds me of The Postal Service (do like a few songs) for some reason.

Wow, not much excitement over this eh. Is it that bad?

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 8 March 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

It's not that bad, but it certainly doesn't inspire excitement.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 March 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

tix to the la show this week sold out in like 3 secs

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Monday, 8 March 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, this is just kinda there. Not bad by any means, but really not a whole lot to get excited about either. And now that I've heard it, I completely rescind my good-natured zing on Evan because he was pretty much OTM.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 12 March 2010 21:37 (fifteen years ago)

Just had a nice LOL at this.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 12 March 2010 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

"The High Road" sounds like a creamier Everlast.

The Magnificent Colin Firth (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 13 March 2010 21:04 (fifteen years ago)

that does not sound like an endorsement

For such a tunesmith Mercer's work here is negligible.

Throwing Muses are reuniting for my next orgasm! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

i actually have been hearing High Road on the radio for a few weeks now...had no idea this was dm and jm...

kinda sounds like a softer version of Muse's new stuff or something...

stream of new album "after the disco"
http://www.tape.tv/channel/brokenbells
quite nice melodic danceable pop in the vein of the bee gees and other bands from the late 70s. much more varied and listenable than the terrible daft punk album. an instant retro classic, i'd say.

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Sunday, 2 February 2014 22:24 (eleven years ago)

Album has a thin veneer
