spotify or grooveshark playlist? pls?

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

i have only the faintest idea of what the former is and have never heard of the latter, so somebody else will have to help you with that. i'm sure most of these songs are on youtube though.

sicker than your vag (some dude), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

raven-symone gonna take this

brews before HOOS (s1ocki), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:27 (fifteen years ago)

did Tim produce "Take Away"? I feel like that might've been one of the handful of tracks on So Addictive that were done by other producers but I can't figure out for sure online. but that can be the 'other' in the unlikely case that anyone thinks that's better than all these songs.

sicker than your vag (some dude), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:27 (fifteen years ago)

702 "Steelo"?

queen frostine (Eric H.), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't that produced by Timbaland?

sicker than your vag (some dude), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:40 (fifteen years ago)

think it comes down to "no panties" vs "bad girl", though "lose control" really is a jam and has one of the best videos of the last decade

haha the melanie b one isn't actually bad at all

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

"Bad Girl"? really?

sicker than your vag (some dude), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, i love the twitchy production and harmonies zooming off everywhere - a good 2/3 of that danity kane album was really awesome.

"lose control" video - choreography and costumery amazing and inventive at every turn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khgIVMUvihg

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

i love the bit where ciara levitates up to the wall

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

"Lose Control" or "Turn Da Lights Off".

and it's corny but I looove "Teary Eyed".

Roz, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

i'm gonna vote Wyclef Jean featuring Missy Elliott - "Party To Damascus" (2003) just cause that's one of my fave underrated naughties "indian" hip hop jams. plus missy's verse is like totally random yet great:

"W-Y to the Clef (c'mon)
Boy I keep it realer than the titties on my chest (yeah)
"Milk does your body good," come on take a sip
Like [3 slurping noises], it taste good don't it"

you really gotta hear the slurping noises to get the full effect

messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

"No Panties"!!!

Tim F, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

Ciara featuring Missy Elliott - "1, 2 Step" (2004)

The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

^^add "Steelo" and "On & On" to that list

The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

i was thinking a bit about missy's underexamined producer chops the other day listening to that new monica ('everything to me') - it's a little thin but is basically characteristic of the good things about the stuff she's become vaguely/predominantly known for, ie a huge dose of sentimentalism (usually of the boogie/soul/light electro variety) and an easy, populist way with a chunky sample. sorta like a cross between jackie brown & jr rotem i suppose.

as the 'steelo' confusion above illustrates (discogs says it's the unrelated chad elliott btw) concrete credits are harder to ascertain pre-2000-something, with a lot of co- and additional production, as well as a generally familial timbaland style. some good bits though, particularly on the lowslung moodily sensual side of things (adina howard 'crank me up', the total songs). she has only ever produced for girls; i hesitate to over-speculate on the big sisterly vibe running through all her work.

far as this poll goes: don't trip, you know it's 'so gone', and don't even make me bring 213 'so fly' and the busta remix into it. ('no panties' is tempting though.)

Wish I could find the awesome awesome awesome drum & bass version of "I Want You Back" I used to have back in the day.

"But how can you BEEP BEEP... With no KEY?!??!" (cue massive drums)

Tim F, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:32 (fifteen years ago)

girl in the room next to me in college halls played this all the time and it did my head in

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDd6HtU6JHg

cos i didn't like rnb much at that point and thought missy was annoying until sock it 2 me (the rain actually passed me by a bit)

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:41 (fifteen years ago)

yeah! that MAW mix - haven't heard it for a years! still sounds great.

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:43 (fifteen years ago)

Keyshia Cole featuring Missy Elliott & Lil' Kim - "Let It Go" (2007)

^^grand hustle remix & gets my vote

ratface killah (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

haha, didn't realise 'things you do' remix wasnt on the original list (didn't realise gina even had a 2nd album either). wouldnt vote for it in this particular poll anyway, classic 90s rnb canon though it is.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 02:20 (fifteen years ago)

the song with Missy on Biggie Duets is better than the one on Born Again imo. but neither was a single so not in the poll.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going with "We Run This" but I haven't heard most of these, tbh.

o. nate, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

you've still got a couple hours to listen to the two dozen songs that are better than "We Run This" before the poll closes.

Busty Oralizer (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

lol was kind of thinking that

PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! PIES! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

Haha- sorry, I can't do it now - maybe I'll do it this evening just for grins.

o. nate, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

I picked Lose Control. I almost called blasphemy when I found out it was not a Timbaland production (I was too into Timbo and his crew when I was younger). This was released around 2005 right? Was electro gaining footing at this point in urban music or was Missy one of the first to put this at front for the rest of the decade?

lilsoulbrother, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

would have been "can't stop" if that had been a single

one year passes...

feeling very foolish that i neglected to make 702's "Where My Girls At" an option

some dude, Sunday, 29 May 2011 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

Lose Control is still one of my favorites. It was epic at the time and continued the Fatman Scoop party that was taking over radio in '05.

Uses Ragefaces To Reflect Her Dissatisfaction (MintIce), Sunday, 29 May 2011 00:49 (fourteen years ago)

i don't remember this poll at all!

three months pass...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnU4PqMym9o

considered this 1 long and hard and have to put it down to a genuine tim/missy coproduction; bit of both in there but not enough/too much to be solely either (don't have the cd/12 but afaict it is regarded as a missy)

sick tune

must gif the last 20 secs of that vid sometime, amazing
