Went through my entire collection this week and realized I only have one Television album yet they are one of my favorite artists - Adventure sucks, Blow Up sound is unholy, and the "reunion" release well the less said the better - so what artist do you consider one of your favorites, yet only have one release of? (I'm guessing Stone Roses will be in here at some point) --

Television is the perfect answer for this thread, really. I'll say My Bloody Valentine, because despite what some people have said, Isn't Anything isn't close.
― kshighway (ksh), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
Adventure and Blow Up are awesome
― that sex version of "blue thunder." (Mr. Que), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
yeah you need to give both of those another listen. and the reunion lp too! dunno if there's anyone i can say this about -- if I really love one album by someone, i'm going to geek out and get them all sooner or later.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)
if u like television and you dismiss Blow Up a) you might not like Television or b) you need to listen again
― that sex version of "blue thunder." (Mr. Que), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)
^^^yes
― tylerw, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
"I only have one Television album yet they are one of my favorite artists". And yet the majority of Television's output you really dislike.
So, I think what you really mean is: 'I have only one Television album, yet it is one of my favorite albums'
― Duke, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)
The Avalanches, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Wolf Parade come to mind.
― Indexed, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)
Compulsion
― Zachary Taylor, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)
Duke: yeah, you're right.
― kshighway (ksh), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:18 (fifteen years ago)
Adult.
Resuscitation is one of my favorite electro albums of all time but the rest of their discography leaves me lukewarm.
― Moka, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)
Massive Attack too - I love Mezzanine. Their other albums have a couple of amazing songs on them but they sit on top of lots of filler.
― Moka, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:25 (fifteen years ago)
Young Marble Giants, but should we be counting acts who have released only one LP? (tho I guess singles etc count?)
― DavidM, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, of course.
Otherwise, how can they be a favourite artist if you only have one?
Or maybe you haven't got any more just yet and are saving it for when you really need a pick-me-up.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:31 (fifteen years ago)
What? Both Compulsion albums are great!
Does this count side projects and one-offs? That'd be a long list of one-and-done albums.
― Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)
let's go naked is probably my best answer, though that release is a compilation of stuff from several releases so it's a little bit cheaty
― a place to bury st edmunds (electricsound), Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:18 (fifteen years ago)
Duster! I plan to get their other two releases, but Stratosphere is so awesome I can't help but put them near the top. I wonder if anyone has noticed I just go on about the same ten or so bands on every thread...
― Evan, Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)
Tallest Man On Earth too. There I go again.
― Evan, Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)
Game Theory, not for want of trying to have more :(
― Enoki Doki (Paul in Santa Cruz), Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:30 (fifteen years ago)
round one-five
― CrazySexyFrog (haitch), Thursday, 4 February 2010 03:34 (fifteen years ago)
t.v. set the bar insanely high on their debut. adventure is quite wonderful. "ain't that nothin" is nearly as good as anything on MM, but that's not the point. now, what was my point?....
― pobrecito (outdoor_miner), Thursday, 4 February 2010 04:01 (fifteen years ago)
the refused put out a bunch of lame hardcore albums before getting big and releasing one of my favourite albums of all time and then breaking up, so them.
― samosa gibreel, Thursday, 4 February 2010 05:04 (fifteen years ago)
I only *own* one CD of Disco Inferno...
― Department of Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification (S-), Thursday, 4 February 2010 05:08 (fifteen years ago)
refused is a good one
i'm (unfortunately) going to have to go with the exploding hearts.
― kaygee, Thursday, 4 February 2010 07:27 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah ok maybe Duke has it right - but for some reason I've convinced myself that my love of Television goes beyond MM even though that's the only album I have/dig --
― jimmy_chop, Thursday, 4 February 2010 07:34 (fifteen years ago)
guy above is CRAZY if he thinks Mezzanine beats Blue Lines
― Jamie_ATP, Thursday, 4 February 2010 08:40 (fifteen years ago)
propaganda
their second album wasn't all that, and its buried deep in the archive rendering it virtually lost, yet the band are always in my list of favourite bands just for their debut alone.also, surprised at the declarations above re compulsion. i love both albums, but the future is medium is the one i go back to more often.
― mark e, Thursday, 4 February 2010 09:28 (fifteen years ago)
I really liked the "Pirate Radio 66" album by The Times (Edward Ball)
Some of his other albums are similar in style (some are markedly different) so why this one gets regarded much higher (by me), I have no idea.
― Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 09:31 (fifteen years ago)
I suppose, for the purposes of this thread, the 'one' release is one you access (or want to), and the others are buried away or gotten rid of.
― Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 09:33 (fifteen years ago)
I dunno about "favourite" but I'll rep for Godley+Creme-era 10cc any day because I think it is sad that among non-ILMers 10cc basically = "oh, didn't they do that shitty comedy reggae song about a Dreadlock Holiday" if they get any response at all, but I only actually have Sheet Music.
Considering I split the 10cc vote on the 70s poll by putting Sheet Music up when everyone else was voting for The Original Soundtrack, I guess I should really find myself a copy of that one.

Girls Aloud - I love a few of the later singles (Whole Lotta History, The Loving Kind) but only own or want to 'What Would The Neighbours Say', and think it one of the best two albums of the 00s.
― Gravel Puzzleworth, Thursday, 4 February 2010 10:04 (fifteen years ago)
Sex Pistols should own this but everyone who truly loves them has at least one other album, either for the b-sides, demos or poor quality live stuff.
― Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 4 February 2010 12:16 (fifteen years ago)
Lush - Spooky
For 5 or 6 years, the only Lush I had was "For Love" video taped off of 120 Minutes. I finally got around to buying the album in 2000 and I fucking love it. I haven't even heard anything else by them though and haven't even really considered it.
― kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 4 February 2010 12:23 (fifteen years ago)
While I have 3 Suicide albums (1st, 2nd, and A Way of Life), my affection for them comes pretty much entirely from that first album, particularly the 2xCD reissue with all kinds of goodies (23 minutes over Brussels ist krieg)
― hnkuzrrreuh (Fellini.Kuti), Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:00 (fifteen years ago)
yeah.
I did get the 2nd, purely for "Dream Baby Dream" which is only "Keep your dreams" on the first (isn't it?)
― Mark G, Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:05 (fifteen years ago)
i've never bothered to listen to another Buzzcocks album, but Singles Going Steady is like in my top 20
― goon baby goon (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:08 (fifteen years ago)
i guess Studio don't count.
i don't think i ever actually bought a Pet Shop Boys album except for the Discography comp :o
until recently it may have been Saint Etienne. and Propaganda.
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 4 February 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
Time to fix this.

kleenex/liliputthnx kill rock stars!
― pobrecito (outdoor_miner), Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:37 (fifteen years ago)
I suppose it could be possible with The Modern Lovers, The Congos, Sex Pistols, Public Image Ltd., Cedric Brooks, Junior Murvin and X-Ray Spex, but only the last two apply to me, being a bit of a completist.
― Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 4 February 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)
I guess there are more where albums are out of print or extremely expensive and I haven't had a chance to get more of like Died Pretty, Feedtime, Game Theory, etc.
