The last couple were pretty dire, but this one picks things up a bit.

Janet Jackson and the Sea and Cake: The Connection?

Hoisin Murphy (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

lol, these*

not to mention craig david!

birther blood (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

That Sugar Ray song is a dick, "U Remind Me" is one of Usher's more annoying singles and I like to pretend St Lunatics never existed. "Where the Party At" is a bona-fide jam, though.

Michael Steele, the first black Superman (HI DERE), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

Craig David's legitimately great song is undermined by being attached to the vacuous personality suck that is Craig David, sadly.

Michael Steele, the first black Superman (HI DERE), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

i'd go

1 u remind me
2 fill me in
3 where the party at
4 midwest swing
5 we need a resolution
6 when it's over
7 here's to the night
8 purple pills
9 fallin
10 flavor of the week

these are all classics or near classics to me

birther blood (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:49 (fifteen years ago)

my favorite part of "midwest swing" is that the edited version came at the height of when they were using sound effects to censor rap hits so it has all these ridiculous cows mooing & pigs squealing where curse words should be iirc

birther blood (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

not to mention the chicken squawks that are just part of the beat

birther blood (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

ha i remember seeing "purple pills" on the box for the first time and thinking it was the most gangsta shit ever

vag gangsta (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

voted for "When It's Over," still my favorite song from the abridged Sugar Ray singles poll

Busty Oralizer (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

"When It's Over" has a really fine chorus.

i kept reading Fever Ray as Sugar Ray in the trax poll. spent a large part of it with "Every Morning" stuck in my head.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

Though the Destiny's Child and the Mariah Carey are both fine too.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

"Schism" is decent. It might actually get my vote because nothing much on this list has ever really caught my ear. Never liked "Bootylicious" as much as some other Destiny's Child singles.

bwoling fro suop (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

"We Need a Resolution" is one of my favorite songs ever. I've always loved how the phrasing of the vocals run one bar ahead of the phrasing of the beat. It gives her vocals this very abrupt, on-edge quality that suits the accusatory nature of the lyric.

i love music

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 10 February 2010 08:50 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah "We Need A Resolution" wins this for me but it's more interesting to think about what would be in second place. "Fill Me In"? "I Do!"? "Bootylicious"? "Someone To Call My Lover"? "Music"?

Love all of those.
