seems stupid to put Witness in as the only hip-hop, but it might actually be my favourite anyway

many great tracks here. for me, it's archangel v. blind v. silent shout v. i feel space v. one more time.

As far as my own dancefloor experiences go I'm having trouble thinking beyond 'Body Language' and 'Rej'. The former really felt like the pivot on which everything turned for me - that gateway drug from electrohouse to minimal. Rej wasn't massively different in terms of the tricks it used but it just seemed to work in so many contexts.

"La La Land" is the one I've gone crazy to on the dancefloor most often.

well i haven't put together anything formal but for instance i do remember ukg existing before dubstep which i realize is not really resident advisor's remit but is a pretty big blind spot from my perspective

That blind spot has always baffled me with RA - they've almost completely ignored funky as well as far as I can see.

Also Gabriel Ananda's 'Ihre Personlische Glucksmelodie', which is pretty much my favourite single by anyone in the 00s, isn't there :(

Resident Advisor's history of 00s dance is basically prog-house --> James Holden --> minimal --> hey let's go back and check out microhouse/electro-house/metro area --> late 00s deep-minimal --> oh hey let's get all precious about house and techno --> post-dubstep.

good tune. Was 'Doppelwhipper' as omnipresent in clubs as the dance press have led me to believe? I was 15/16 at the time and living in rural Norfolk, so y'know I didn't even know what a club was.

Yeah, never really got the appeal, until putting "Been A Long Time" over the top improved it 1000%.

also, my friends have mostly crap taste in music, so i've heard maybe 2 or 3 of these out, the rest in my headphones :/ my imaginary dancefloors are great though. BUT YES i'll be in berlin for a week in march and will make up for as much lost time as i can.

There is some amazing stuff here (Rej! Falling Up remix! I Feel Space!) but Sky Was Pink is all-decade top three for me, just the most incredible, logical, exhilarating thing.

That's exactly how I feel comparing this list to a 90s one. I love a lot of the tunes here but after 2004 I don't associate them with anything more than sitting at home. :(

I did a list of most of the rest - I'll see if I can dig it up. For me, the top five were like "yeah!" and then much of the rest of the top 50 was pretty wtf. Still, I think "Who's Afraid Of Detroit" stands out as the most innovative and compelling of the lot. Sorry if I peed on your poll.

And apparently to RA, ambient doesn't exist, and drum and bass was barely a blip on the radar for the past decade (not that the years 2003-2008 really offered up much). And as far as James Murphy et al are concerned, after hearing the excellent spate of DFA remixes that were coming out for a while there most of the LCD Soundsystem material was pretty disappointing to my ears.

If you want that kind of coverage, why are you looking to RA for it?

I am not saying that to be a smart ass, but they are a single site on the web. It isn't like there is a shortage of coverage on specialist scenes if you are willing to look for it.

Don't want to speak for Todd here, but I'd have to speculate that the embrace of everything post-"minimal" on Tim's timeline probably has something to do with TB taking over editorial. The slow inclusion of most other genres probably has something to do with TB slowly bringing in more writers with different areas of expertise.

im gonna have to go with one more time - it totally encapsulates a period in my life when i was completely in love with house music and going out and i have a very very specific fond memory of junior sanchez looping it and filtering it and teasing it out at 3am for a very very drunken (and quite sweaty) shindig crowd in 2000 - it might not be the best piece of music there, it might not be the best track either ... but its the best song

well it was indie-crossover - lots of HUGE tracks are, and electroclash as a scene was pretty indie-crossover - but yeah it was a pretty straight-up club track which didn't need any indie context to work, really

^^^ Definitely one of my all-time favorites as well. I turn into a puddle of goo when the coily synth textures weave in at about 5:20. Makes me wish it'd somehow come out in the mid 90s, when I was raving all the time.

Both times I heard Carl Craig's remix of Relevee out were amazing dancefloor moments for me. The song I enjoyed playing out was Ada's Each and Everyone. We should have our own 00's dance tracks poll.
