i love how the first two records are uplifting deep house and then they're like nah fuck it let's just make some dub

Never been a massive fan of vocal house, but New Day is a killer.

chicago mix of round one so sick

^^^ Between this, "New Day" and "Find A Way" for me.

i think round five is one of the most beautiful things ernestus and maurizio have ever done. it's erased any trace of house and is pretty much a rhythm and sound track by all but name, but has this delicacy and softness of emotion that just floats so effortlessly, like the ultimate "cloud of titties" track. i love the deep undercurrent of melancholy that pervades so much of this music

my favourite time to hear "new day" is midway in a long 4-6 hr set, so the hopefulness of the vocal and those airy chords shine through and elevate the room. it has a completely different effect if played at the end of a set, and appears to be a much sadder song

anita bonghit (rionat), Monday, 15 February 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

i think i love the round x records so much because the vocal and song is just as important as the amazing production aesthetic

anita bonghit (rionat), Monday, 15 February 2010 11:40 (fifteen years ago)

like "new day" is such a fantastically well written song, in structure and lyrics. the way it builds up to the refrain but you're still kinda unsure as to whether he is reunited with his lover or not kills me. it's one of the best break up songs ever imo

Voted Round Two: New Day

Andy Caine sounds so so sad and forlorn: the frustration at the position he finds himself, unable to understand why a relationship is over, is perfectly captured in the finest break-up song in house.

Tie!!! in truth, that's a perfect result 'cos Round One and Round Two, against each other, are equally unsurpassable imo

one year passes...

every one of these is just incredible. i'm your brother (club version): when those "ooo"s come in, it is like entering a cloud. such a gorgeous gorgeous song. the twisted mix is so dope. quadrant dub is endless sky-watching bliss, every moment feels right. round 2: i realized the new day in the last line is about moving on, not going back. such a for real break-up track but like opposite of hysterical, it's letting all those feelings develop and breathe.

round 3 idk, just really deep dub. so much space to get lost in. reminds me of the horace andy wackies stuff but that's probably cuz i've been listening to that a lot lately. round 4 is the one i've slept on but now it's up there, hypnotic and melodic, you know? has that thing where the synths sound like they've been recorded from 15 different places in a cave and mixed together. then round 5, what can i say, it's like namaste *bows*
