figure I'd be more proactive in this if I had something more to account to than just my earss

so far the first/only cantopop CD I've bought on the recommendation of one of my friends. the subtitle is '49 songs in 1' which is very...chinese. the cover art makes me vaguely uncomfortable when I look at it.

this is the title song off of it. it is the first song in the tracklisting. I like it, and it gets me excited to listen to all 49 songs because there is a sound of a car being started at the beginning and I feel like I am embarking on a journey.

I like the na na na na's that trail off. the production puts me in the same mood as 'go west' by the psbs. I like that weird climbing horn thing.

apparently 'cookie' is the name of her lover. not the other cookie you may be thinking of!
in conclusion, this album is full of jams. would buy again!

having my aunt's name emblazoned in large letters across the top makes that cover even more unsettling

this is pretty good too. cantopop has always had great ballads imo.

Discovered this track by Priscilla Chan earlier this year 陳慧嫻 - 反叛 'Rebel' I think is the translation:

Sweet find, though those traditional characters throw me, eh. I've spent a few hours sifting through small cantopop vinyl stalls in some GZ markets with my phone opened to Xiami and puzzling things out, though I find the ballad/banger ratio a bit hard to deal with coming from a more freestyle/italo zone. One of the Sandy Lam LPs I listened to had a retitled cover of "Take My Breath Away", for what it's worth.
Not sure how well Tudou works outside of China, but here's 劉美君/Prudence Liew's "Subtropical Boy":http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/qyZXtD1-wZw/

Yeah that's a pretty well known one - it featured prominently in wong kar-wai's first movie as tears go by
