I haven't heard this song often enough to know the characters (I tend to skip it).

i was sort of fascinated with it as a kid, but didn't bother actually sorting out the narrative til years later. it's a cool song, works on its own terms and has plenty of dangling symbolism, but it doesn't push any particular allegory. just lots of suggestive lines.

It's a fine song, but if I were in charge of that record, I would substitute Up To Me for this, and Call Letter Blues for Meet Me In The Morning. The result: a perfect album.
