report i heard on the radio in the morn' about this asked the question if abbey road has enough brand recognition that it could hold out against being redeveloped.

Let's all chip in and buy it and put a small plaque by the entrance reading, "The Beatles are Overrated."

Throughout the global history of EMI, Abbey Road has acquired probably the greatest in-house collection of vintage and modern microphones. In recording, the colour and quality of sound you capture at the source is the most important part of the audio chain. Our collection has a colour for every occasion with microphones representing every stage of development from one of the earliest ribbons designed by Alan Blumlein in the 1930’s to the best releases from today. All of the vintage microphones still use their original valves and diaphragms and are regularly maintained.Manufacturer Model No. Quantity AEA (Ribbon) R 84 2 AKG (Valve) C 12 8 AKG (Valve) C 12 VR 2 AKG (Valve) C 24 (stereo) 4 AKG (Valve) C 28 C 1 AKG C 414 EB 4 AKG C 414 B-ULS-TL 2 AKG C 414 ULS-TL2 2 AKG C 414 B-ULS 8 AKG C 414 ULS 6 AKG C 451 E 7 AKG C 451 EB 3 AKG C 451 CB 1 AKG C 452 E 2 AKG C 452 EB 2 AKG CE 1 1 AKG CK 1 (capsule) 8 AKG CK 5 (capsule) 9 AKG CK 8 (capsule) 6 AKG C 422 (stereo) 4 AKG D 19c 3 AKG D 20 9 AKG D 109 1 AKG D 112 5 AKG D 12 2 AKG D 19 1 AKG D 190E 1 AKG D 20 5 AKG D 202 2 AKG D 25 5 AKG D 224E 3 AKG D 30 1 AKG D 707 1 Beyerdynamic M-88 9 Beyerdynamic M-160 (ribbon) 2 Beyerdynamic M-201 10 Brauner VM 1 4 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4003 3 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4006 6 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4006 (TLX) 6 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4007 4 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4011 14 Bruel & Kjaer (DPA) 4015 3 Calrec CM 4050 Soundfield 1 Calrec CM1050C 1 Crown PZM-30 GPB 5 Electrovoice RE-15 4 Electrovoice RE-16 2 Electrovoice RE-18 1 Electrovoice RE-20 13 Electrovoice RE-55 2 Electrovoice EV 1777 1 EMI (Ribbon) RM1B 2 Gefel UM-92.1S 2 Neumann (Valve) M 50 15 Neumann (Valve) M 49 6 Neumann (Valve) M 250 2 Neumann (Valve) M269 1 Neumann (Valve) U 47/48 11 Neumann (Valve) U 47/48 (Nuvistor) 2 Neumann (Valve) U 67 18 Neumann (Valve) KM 53 4 Neumann (Valve) KM 54 10 Neumann (Valve) KM 56 9 Neumann (Valve) KM 64 6 Neumann (Valve) SM 2 (stereo) 2 Neumann KM 83 (capsule) 2 Neumann KM 84 (inc3Din) 28 Neumann KM 86 18 Neumann KM 130 1 Neumann KM 140 4 Neumann KM 184 13 Neumann KM264 2 Neumann TLM 103 2 Neumann TLM 127 1 Neumann TLM 170 15 Neumann TLM 50 9 Neumann U 47 FET 15 Neumann U 87 28 Neumann U 87ai 11 Neumann U 89i 1 Neumann SM 69 (stereo) 2 RCA (Ribbon) 3043 1 RCA (Ribbon) BX-44 5 RCA (Ribbon) DX-77 1 Royer R-121 4 Royer SF-24 (stereo) 1 Sanken CU 41 7 Sanken CMS 2 1 Schoeps MK 2 6 Schoeps MK 21 7 Schoeps MK 2S 4 Schoeps MK 2H 4 Schoeps MK 4 10 Schoeps MK 41 3 Schoeps MK 5 3 Schoeps MK 6 6 Schoeps CMT 54 3 Schoeps CMT 540 1 Schoeps CMT 541 3 Schoeps CMTS 501 U 2 Schoeps MSTC5 1 Sennheiser MD409 U3 12 Sennheiser MD 421 9 Sennheiser MD 421 U4 4 Sennheiser MD 421 U5 11 Sennheiser MD 441 7 Sennheiser MD 441 U 1 Sennheiser MD 441 U3 4 Sennheiser MKH 20 4 Sennheiser MKH 40 1 Shure Beta 57A 2 Shure Beta 58A 7 Shure KSM 32 2 Shure SM 56 1 Shure SM 57 15 Shure SM 58 6 Shure SM 7 18 Shure SM 81 6 Sony C-38 2 Sony C37P 1 Sony EMC 22P 1 STC/Coles 4021E 3 STC/Coles 4032E 2 STC/Coles 4033 4 STC/Coles 4038 (ribbon) 19 Telefunken M12F 1 Vitavox B 50 2 Vitavox B 54 1

With EMI selling more and more of their catalogue, hopefully they'll not sell Beatles, Bowie and Stones shortly, as the versions of their albums are all pretty much state-of-the-art and surely not in need of any cash-ins in terms of new versions.
However, selling off Kate Bush and Pink Floyd might be a good idea as both are in awful need of remasters by now. :)

Selling their catalogue?
― Mark G, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)
They are selling off bits and pieces of their catalogue now because of the economy. Island have already taken over Queen, and subsequently reissuing their back catalogue (which was about time)
― You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 23:23 (fourteen years ago)
Is that really EMI selling their Queen interest, or did Queen sign to a 'production company' back in the day and the rights reverted to them?
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 09:24 (fourteen years ago)
queen vs emi : been an ongoing battle for ages.
EMI did not 'sell' Queen catalogue, but Queen fought to leave :

Other Quincy Jones news
Um, wha?
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 09:45 (fourteen years ago)
possible cause : 'quincy jones' follows 'queen' when it comes to search results
― mark e, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 09:49 (fourteen years ago)
anyway, yeah that's more like how I thought it.
What next, EMI sell their Beatles back catalogue to http://www.beatlesguide.org/images/Logos/DeccaLogo.jpg
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 09:50 (fourteen years ago)
hoho. then again, with the profits that decca have made out of imelda may, and emi getting pressure from investors, Decca could probably affort it now.

(It'd make a good April 1st story)

EMI aren't selling their catalogue to anyone Gear u mad.
Floyd have recently resigned and they will be doing the whole reissue plan hopefully before the year end, they've been reviewing the vaults so fingers crossed there will be unheard stuff too.
― MaresNest, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 10:30 (fourteen years ago)
re-signed, that is.
Resigned is the opposite.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 10:35 (fourteen years ago)
Actually then, Pink Floyd have actually both re-signed and resigned.
― You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 10:40 (fourteen years ago)
yep re-signed, still buzzed about the possibility of hearing the Household Instruments album, which they got further into than people previously thought.
