mysterious swede released an album called 'dying in africa' in 2006--found it on some forum (as u might guess i will download literally anything compared to peter gabriel) last week and its been on constant rotation since.

dont know what the dude is up to now--apparently sally shapiro covered one of his songs? dying in africa is good but its frustrating because it feels like the album someone releases before they release a GREAT album.

anyway just wanted to recommend to my headz, see if anyone else knew this guy.

some tracks on youtube:

really enjoying this. almost totally instrumental, maybe a bit less hooky than the last one.

caek, Sunday, 27 February 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

yeah this was great wintertime music. i miss the vocals btu the instrumentation is better than the first.

five months pass...

was wondering if there was a thread on him, it turns out there is and I posted on it

new album really is beautiful. sadly he's getting no publicity whatsoever. lots of bright, shimmery synths, very cool

Why doesn't anybody talk about this guy? I loved that first record, need to check out the one from this year... Above cut "A Clean City" was a fave from the first album; also love this one:

i dont really get why this guy isnt more of a critical success, feels like hes working in the same general vein as a lot of "bigger" (relatively of course) artists, but its okay

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 01:29 (fourteen years ago)

is there a new one from this year? newer than this one?

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 01:31 (fourteen years ago)

That's the one I meant; I didn't even realize he had a new record out!

Clarke B., Tuesday, 16 August 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)

haha yeah. he needs a new publicist!

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 01:34 (fourteen years ago)

Probably so! This has me thinking about under-rated vs. under-exposed, and I think he's clearly a case of the latter; everybody I know who knows him seems to dig him a lot. How did you find out about him, for instance? Seems like he was never really marketed. I heard Dying in Africa at Kim's in the East Village back when it was released and asked the clerk what it was, bought it on the spot. I still couldn't tell you what label it's on off the top of my head, or who are considered his "peers"--you know what I mean?

Clarke B., Tuesday, 16 August 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)

i was searching "peter gabriel" on some message board and there was a thread about him titled "RIYL peter gabriel" and im a sucker so

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 02:23 (fourteen years ago)

but yeah i guess hes on some swedish label? seems tangentially connected to sally shapiro whos gotten way more US exposure?

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

clarke i feel like theres a moneymaking opportunity for us here

max, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

Even if they're dying in Africa? I do think it would be cool to try to find out who he's connected to... Have you heard the Games version?
