i'm too lazy to link to it, but the two 'security cam footage' videos that pfork tv posted of the xx this week are great -- a lot of these gimmick live video ideas just come off as... gimmicks but since the xx's music feels like you're spying on the band fleshing out an intensely personal matter the whole aesthetic worked really well

I relistened to the Girls Album last night to see if it still holds up for me. From the title, I couldn't place "Morning Light" or remember what it sounded like. It turned out that it was the somewhat out of place, kind of shoegazer song near the end. It seems like an unusual choice for a single, but I liked it more than I remember. I think it's a refreshing change after the preceding songs, since it downplays the vocals and focuses more on the band sound, and it kind of rocks out a bit. I think it's easier for me to get all the way through the Girls album since it seems more varied - I tend to lose steam about halfway through the xx album. Hard to say which is better. The xx members seem like nice, clean-cut kids, whereas the Girls guy seems like your typical narcissistic, drug-addled, horny rock musician.
