Went with "Raise Up," one of my favorites of the year.

"lol jon"!

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 19 February 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

"feelin on yo booty" just over "raise up" - def feel those particular furtado and milian joints tho

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 19 February 2010 08:59 (fifteen years ago)

hold on, that coo coo cal track is so fucking good

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:00 (fifteen years ago)

it's what i voted for, altho "raise up" is obv a worthy choice -- idk why but every few months i'll have a random lol because the chorus of the 9/11 remix to "raise up" will pop into my head -- "feelin on yo booty" is obv also 10/10

otherwise i dig the gorillaz & afroman trax a lot, also juvie and alien ant farm (real talk)

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:02 (fifteen years ago)

"Bia Bia", easy

she got dumps like a rage, rage (The Reverend), Friday, 19 February 2010 09:02 (fifteen years ago)

no shit the first time i ever heard "because i got high" on the radio the DJ played it back like he had just dropped "b.o.b." or something

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:03 (fifteen years ago)

ha i didn't even realize that was "bia bia" -- it looks like "bla, bla" to me -- didn't even register

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:03 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, this is another good month; the rest of '01 is pretty solid.

if I don't see more dissent, I'm going to have to check myself in (Matos W.K.), Friday, 19 February 2010 09:05 (fifteen years ago)

haha I mistyped both Lil Jon and "Bia' Bia'," obv.

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:08 (fifteen years ago)

afroman still tours off of "because i got high" somehow

what a world

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:09 (fifteen years ago)

i don't even listen to devin the dude but when afroman came out here and indie & hippie fucks were all OMG AFROMAN i wanted to be like LISTEN TO DEVIN THE DUDE you assholes

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:10 (fifteen years ago)

"My Projects" is a great tune, though the Coo Coo Cal album kinda suffered from almost every song sounding the same. Still voted for that.

Tuomas, Friday, 19 February 2010 09:12 (fifteen years ago)

How on earth did the Wiseguys have a US hit as late as 2001? Was it on an advert?

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:14 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah i fuck with that linkin park song

they deserve their own singles poll sometime soon

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:15 (fifteen years ago)

man timbaland gave such fucking dope beats to regional southern rappers back in the day -- i wish he'd go on some BACK TO BASICS shit and stop fucking with drake & chad kroeger & get in the studio with, idk, alley boy

i mean, there's no way that even back in 01 petey pablo could afford a timbo beat for his first single? so that shouldn't really be an issue

Petey Pablo was on Timbo's vanity label

I really liked the synth-y beat and Cal's "crazy" rapping style on "My Projects", but it turned out he used the same gimmick on almost every tune on the album. There's a few other dope tunes on it besides "My Projects", but as a whole it kinda wears you down.

oh word? okay

it's always hilarious nowadays to catch "drumline" on cable and see petey pablo as THE BIG CELEBRITY GUEST -- i remember even back then being all "now this can't be right..."

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 09:24 (fifteen years ago)

actually, on looking back, he was not, but Timbo had wanted to sign him before he signed elsewhere

Thanks *guilty too-lazy-to-look-up-wikipedia-page-myself face*

gotanynewsstory? (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 19 February 2010 09:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i was gonna say, Petey Pablo was on Jive, and Beat Club was an Interscope label. PP seemed to have a lot of hype (or at least label support) going into his debut, though, the year before Jive gave him a guest spot on the Mystikal album and a big ad for PP at the end of the CD.

people should not be allowed to vote in these threads if they don't justify their choice - not one mention of gorillaz in the thread and then bang they win the poll thanks to the silent loserish majority

"Clint Eastwood" is has a catchy hook, but is sung by Damon Albarn and features the phrase "sunshine in a bag"
