Pitchfork reports:
The new album's title? Forgiveness Rock Record.
It's out May 4th. New song, "World Sick," available if you give BSS your email address or stream it from the above P4k link.
― kshighway (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:19 (fifteen years ago)
What a great title!
You disgusting savage.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great title.
Yeah that is a ghastly title.
― 80085 (a hoy hoy), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
Ugly cover too. :(
― 80085 (a hoy hoy), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)
I read somewhere they hired Chuck D on as a title consultant.

bad album art+titles are longstanding bss traditions.
― phantompenguin, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)
I don't know, dudes, I mean, Forgiveness Rock Record. It's just brilliant!!
this isn't meant as a diss -- genuinely curious -- why do people like this band?
― tylerw, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:30 (fifteen years ago)
like is there a song I'm missing that is amazing?
― tylerw, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
Orig title was Fork-If-Next Rock-Wreck-Whored, they compromised
― Brio, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)
I'd say try tracks #1, #2, and #14 off the s/t:

― Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great t (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
disc before s/t was better.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 19 February 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)
You Forgot It In People is a massively over-hyped, over-rated indie rock record with one great song: "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl"
― Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great t (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)
another great title
― Mr. Que, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:36 (fifteen years ago)
YFIIP has many songs perfect to hear when you put yr itunes on random and then to be forgotten as soon as they finish.
― 80085 (a hoy hoy), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:36 (fifteen years ago)
stop it they are the greatest band ever
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 19 February 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)
Let's just say they polarize people. Between people with good taste and people who like grunge jam bands.
― Brio, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
I love the muddy, layered sound of both albums. It is a cliche, but it really rewards repeated listening. I can totally see how that isn't everyone's thing though. Plus they usually put on a hell of a live show.
― sofatruck, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
"World Sick" is really good.
― Seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you think that is a great t (ksh), Friday, 19 February 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
You Forgot It is a fine fine record. The self-titled follow-up is perhaps the most overproduced record of all time, and that may be understating the case.
My favorite song of theirs remains New Country, which you'll find as track 3 here.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 19 February 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
"cause = time" is the classic song
― J0rdan S., Friday, 19 February 2010 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
underrated stoned music too tbh

seriously what the hell is wrong with you that you like this band and not 'you forgot it...'
― united arab amirites (samosa gibreel), Friday, 19 February 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
s/t is shamefully underrated. a bit bloated, yes, but bursting with ideas from a group of tremendously talented people.
― Indexed, Friday, 19 February 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)
living in toronto has ruined this band for me beyond repair.
― EDB, Friday, 19 February 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
lol why is every pissed in here? even ned is pissed!
― call all destroyer, Friday, 19 February 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)
they made some good jams if you like indie rock with guitars. now calm the fuck down.

― call all destroyer, Friday, 19 February 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)
word. and good songs that when given room to breathe live kicked ass, and in acoustic sets for radio turned out to be kind of awesome folk-rock.
YFIIP is wonderful in that it's front-to-back amazing and also sort of a grab bag. like changing dials on a radio.
New Country is def. one of their best tunes and the Fast Mix of Major Label Debut should have/could have been an actual hit. but for my money, their shining moment is the off-kilter summertime jam 7/4 (Shoreline) - those horns!
― Alex in Montreal, Friday, 19 February 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)
truly awful title though. of course, keep in mind that the self-titled was supposed to be called windsurfing nation
― Alex in Montreal, Friday, 19 February 2010 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

Benjamin, this
It's not that bad. I like a few of the songs, but I am still very surprised that it has received such positive reviews. It is just sort of there.
is more or less exactly how I feel.
― ksh, Sunday, 9 May 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)
I'd like to survey all the people who are stoked on the newest Spoon and New Pornographers albums, but are left cold by BSS because it fails to differentiate itself from their other stuff.
uhh, songwriting?
― Cosmo Vitelli, Sunday, 9 May 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah but the quality of BSS's songwriting on the new one is not so far removed from their last.
― scott pgwp (pgwp), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)
their last album was a mess. the only time it broke through the haze is when they let the pieces breathe by clearing the dense production tricks and layers (e.g., the song hotel, i think, tho i can't really recall).
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:31 (fifteen years ago)
it was awesome BECAUSE it was a mess!
― ksh, Sunday, 9 May 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
it was an awesome mess.
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 9 May 2010 22:31 (fifteen years ago)
unlike their new record, which has been deleted from my computer. just got a lil' world sick there, y'all!
― ksh, Monday, 10 May 2010 00:26 (fifteen years ago)
Even the Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning solo albums were way better than this
― calstars, Monday, 10 May 2010 00:53 (fifteen years ago)
The Kevin Drew solo LP was pretty good, as far as I recall. Didn't quite feel like a solo jaunt, either. Canning's was more clearly a different beast than BSS.

where he found forty other likeminded folk who proceeded to simultaneously release a rock record & plead for forgiveness for inflicting said record on indie rock stans such as myself who they were already aware would be terribly disappointed at their lukewarm effort
― ksh, Monday, 10 May 2010 01:14 (fifteen years ago)
