Nirvan's attempts to channel the Sex Pistols prior to the recording of In Utero..

~During several live performances in 1993 as well as during the shooting of “Sliver” Cobain would wear a sweater that Courtney Love bought off a fan that they called his “Johnny Rotten” sweater.

~While making the In Utero demos, Jack Endino wrote the name “S. Ritchie” on the session tape boxes at Nirvana’s request (being a reference to Sid Vicious whose real name was John Simon Ritchie)

~Nirvana booked themselves at the studio where they recorded In Utero (Pachyderm Studios outside of Cannon Falls, Minnesota) as “The Simon Ritchie Bluegrass Ensemble”.

Are there more???

anita bonghit (rionat), Monday, 22 February 2010 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

tylerw, Monday, 22 February 2010 22:05 (sixteen years ago)

In his susicide note, Cobain quotes a Neil Young song. The same song that has the lyrics "This is the story of Johnny Rotten"...

acer, Monday, 22 February 2010 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

--Neil Young and Johnny Rotten are the same person

Both are overhyped assholes who chose death over life. Both will live on because of poster shops at the mall and a tiny catalog of half decent tunes.

Kurt Cobain wore a vial of Sid Vicious' blood around his neck but it was actually Sid Vicious' kool-aid.

Captain Ahab, Monday, 22 February 2010 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

"postershops at the malls"???

Do these really exist?

acer, Monday, 22 February 2010 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

i know who the sockpuppet master of ilx is (velko), Monday, 22 February 2010 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

That sweater was obtained off Tim Wheeler of Ash.

Sorry, true story there.

Other members of band went on to utter mediocrity?

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 10:48 (sixteen years ago)

During the recording of In Utero Kurt would repeatedly tell this joke:

What did Sid Vicious call his STD?
The Sex Pustules!

- Curious, first-time Nirvana listeners often get the feeling they've been cheated.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

sid vicious wore a swastika
kurt cobain wore the k records logo

Brio, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:07 (sixteen years ago)

Truth.

Both will live on because of poster shops at the mall and a tiny catalog of half decent tunes.
Not true at all.. why are you here..

That sweater was obtained off Tim Wheeler of Ash.
Did Ash exist in 1993?

billstevejim, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

No they didn't.

Tim did, though.

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

(Actually, I just looked it up: They formed in 1992)

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2010 17:32 (sixteen years ago)

That's probably correct.. I remember "Jack Names The Planets" was '94, so if it were a year or 2 earlier, that means Kurt got his sweater off a dude from the UK who was 15 or 16 at the time. It's an awesome story if that's actually true.
