Portable Wi-Fi Speakers?

I am not really sure if this product category exists, poked around a little and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. I have an AirPort Express set up in my apt to stream mp3s through the stereo. I'd love to be able to have an inexpensive boombox-type thing to stream music in the bedroom or kitchen, which I could control with my iPhone remote. Do they make such a thing? Seems like it would be pretty useful.

Thanks. 400 clams, guess an affordable option is still a ways off. Could buy another base station and more speakers, but that' less portable, more stuff to plug in.

Pretty sure there's an app that lets you control the squeezebox machines with an iPhone. Doesn't need the airport express, just a wireless router.

two years pass...

Looking for something relatively cheap and simple, just to play stuff off my phone or laptop. Doesn't need to be able to be house-rocklingly loud, but nice clear sound is always good...

Thinking about one of these: https://jawbone.com/speakers/jambox/overview

Anyone got any suggestions?

Just found out about Oontz last night, haven't tested them but their big selling point is they're less than half the price of Jambox:

I have a Jambox and it sounds great. Completely recommend it.

Oh jeez. The minirig looks like a beer cozy. The jambox a strange sort of nerf humidor/purse? What's wrong with speakers looking like speakers? And even the $70 Oontz looks overpriced for what you get. It doesn't sound like brio needs actually portable speakers, so why not these? M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Powered Monitor Speakers

For actual portable, nothing beats my backpack that I customized with some Polk 45W marine speakers, an amp and a cheap rechargeable 12V battery, at least for the price!

what speakers do you all use, wired or otherwise? i have dj monitors which i use in one room but lately feel like i want something small with a bit of wallop for my kitchen and/or bedroom.

Monitors in my bedroom - secondhand, I don't think they're particularly good ones. I moved house a couple of weeks ago and still haven't set them up yet. I've been surviving with my Minirig and honestly, I could fucking street team for that thing I know, but it's almost as good as those speakers. Really really clear, takes ages to run out of batteries, goes really (really) loud without distorting, portable, rechargable etc...

Minirig is great for a long-lasting portable speaker, goes really loud as well - although I can definitely hear distortion and limiting on it, it's a pleasing character. Obviously next to a good bigger speaker the bass is lacking, but you can even use it for portable parties. A few of us had a mini-rave in a car park post-club for an hour while waiting for the first train earlier in the year.

what about this solar-powered joint, so I can keep rocking the tasty jams in a Cormac McCarthy's The Road-type scenario:
