Green Velvet - "Answering Machine"

Oh. My. God. At the moment, this is the best song ever. (I'm listening to a remix by X-Press 2.) AMAZING. How did I sleep on this for so long?

Any recommendations for other Green Velvet tracks? I've already discovered "Preacher Man" and "The Stalker".

New "I! DON'T! NEED! THIS! SHIT!" answers. (Except I do!)

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Flash" - original mix and Timo Maas remix are v. good. I also like "Green Light / Stop Light" or whatever it's called.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

also several great tracks as Cajmere including the famous "Perculator"

Tracer Hand, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan have you heard "Genedefekt"?

Andy K, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Green Velvet is incredible - download "La La Land" and "Gat" immediately. "Preacherman" is on about 30% of my mixtapes.

J Blount, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

preacherman, yea! thats great!

gareth, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAN THIS IS WHY YOU LISTEN TO RONAN WHEN HE BIGS UP THE X PRESS 2 REMIX SIX FUCKING MONTHS AGO!

Sorry it's amazing. I. DON'T. NEED. THIS. SHIT.

Dan get "Flash!" Green Velvet is so so so so good yes. "here's some baaaaaaaad little kiddies doin' some baaaaaaad little things".

Ronan, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracks I've found so far: "The Stalker", "Flash", "Answering Machine", "La La Land", "Genedefekt", "Dank", "Preacherman", "I Want To Leave My Body". I haven't heard them all yet, but what I've heard has been top-notch. I first heard of Green Velevet because of a remix of Orgy's "Stitches" that was really phenomenal and almost made me like Orgy. To the peole who told me many months ago that GV had already created "creep-house" before The Horrorist got on the scene: YOU WERE SO RIGHT.

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry Ronan, you were absolutely right. *hangs head in shame*

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am seeing him live in August and I can't fucking wait.

My brother had some live MP3s of him at Club Toxic or something which were wicked, his maniac chatting into the mic is great, "alloooooooooow me to introduce the band". Also Flash is the last song I can think of which made me laugh out loud aswell as think "fuck this is great". Genius.

Ronan, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why I like "Olio" by The Rapture: It's Robert Smith singing over a Green Velvet track!

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

People are always bigging up Green Velvet to me, but I've only got round to listening to Genedefekt, which bored me shitless at the time - is this representative of the rest of their stuff? Bearing in mind I want vast slabs of techno BEEF, and none of yer clanky abstract rubbish...

Matt DC, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard some creep house song the other day which I'd like an ID on. Lots of swooping and zooming bass noises building, and then a man comes in and says "what is this!?" A woman: "These are my breasts. Do you want to touch them?" Man: "Hell No!" Woman: "Respect me now! Respect me now! Respect me now!..."

Sterling Clover, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Early creep-house favorites = Adonis' No Way Back, Reese's Just Another Chance, Fingers Inc's Distant Planet.

Andy K, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

vast slabs of techno beef

Answering Machine (X-Press 2 remix) is more house than techno but it is a fucking vast slab alright, absolutely colossal. X-Press 2 don't generally do delicate though do they?

Ronan, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ride the White Horse"

Keiko, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anwsering Machine = utter genius although that bastard riff when that preacher starts to scream in Preacher Man is out of this world.

uhm...everything said above is great but also great are Water Molecule and Abduction. My favourite track from the last album is Waiting 4 The Day 2 End, bit of a grower (imagine Mozzer if he were black, into techno and well...any good :)

Omar, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The It's "Donnie" is the best creep-house song EVAH!!! download if you can! oh, and GV is a genius, also seek out if you have a taste for minimal loud house/techno (and I know you do Dan) the Cajmere mix- CD he put out in '00.

M Matos, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i listened to ronan many months ago and downloaded this and i think this it's fantastic and then i eagerly played it for my friend and he's like "this is terrible" and although i am very much aware that our musical tastes rarely converge that put a tiny damper on my enjoyment of it. nonetheless, it's still fantastic.

mitch lnw, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's the David Bowie of techno.

Michael Bourke, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Land of the Lost" has a pleasingly stonking groove. But my personal favourite is "The Stalker" - hi-hats like scythes!

Tim, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

most bases checked here but my some of my favourite tracks not mentioned here are 'help me', 'destination unknown', 'thoughts' and 'stormy weather'...particularly on hearing the last three, my heart was stolen by velvet...even if his new escapades are a bit iffy at times..i thought la la la was a big disappointment..oh and water molecule is one of my favourites also..check them out!

sharivari, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean one minute he's being all scary, then he sells out and does this lala song about all around the world people dancing.. what's the deal with that?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All around the world people dancing??????

Ronan, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"it goes around the world... lalalalala" -- green velvet really started turning out hippy crap, didn't he?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sterling, that "lalala crap" is so...end of the millennium.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

:-)

It is wonderful, is it not. I think I was just thinking of it randomly last week!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

All I need now is a suit of green velvet to wear as I dance to Green Velvet while eating green velvet cake (ie red velvet cake with green food coloring).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

when djing in grant park, he played "personal jesus," it was neat.

deej.., Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

he's the only guy I've seen who can pull off using a keytar on stage without seeming campy

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Right now, at this very second, this would be the best concert lineup in the whole world:

Green Velvet
Basement Jaxx
Underworld

(haha guess what artists I am cycling through today)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

seriously, is there anything more to music than "Flash" or "Answering Machine"?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Finding Green Velvet's first CD in a bargain bin is my favourite-ever CD shopping moment.

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

In fact, if I have that, do I need anything else? Do I huh huh do I?

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

you need some form of La La Land and at least a few Cajmere 12"s

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

PERCOLATOR IS REQUIRED.

Also the velvet mix of "Is it all over my face" is pretty essential too. And I never know why "Fake and Phony" doesn't get more love.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

'you don't need to be fake and phony' repeat ad infinitum - classic!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

Dan - send now! I know it not at all, and feel sorely lacking. You know me...if I like it I will force it on the unwashed against their wishes. Loudly.

when I lived in Norfolk VA there was this little techno/house record store around the corner from my apt. and I bought a buncha stuff indiscriminately not really having a set "taste" / just trying to get into new shit

anyway the guy who ran the place put me up on Green Velvet and had me buy the Genedefekt 12"

"you like that weird stuff ... this guy's sort of like the Kool Keith of house"

good lookin out

dmr, Thursday, 1 October 2009 03:26 (sixteen years ago)

ProTip: the music man version of 'preacherman' 12" has the rev. franklin's sermon as an acapella on the flip. handy!
