Gotta listen to this tonight, but pretty sure I'll end up voting for "The Oncoming Day."

The whole thing is great though.

Effloresce and Deliquesce for me. Classic album.

ithappens, Monday, 8 March 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

Unbelievably classic album. Strength to strength, it's almost as if it gains steam as it goes along.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 8 March 2010 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

"Part Past, Part Fiction" sure is an earworm.

i havent heard this album except for the opening track. i was going to put up a 'kaleidoscope world' (listening to it constantly over the last couple of months) poll but i think 'pink frost' would have walked away with it. what a great band, i was playing the album in the car recently and my friend in the passenger seat went, 'Yo La Tengo!'. i had to remind him it wasnt, i didnt see the similarity myself...

Michael B, Monday, 8 March 2010 17:02 (fifteen years ago)

I've always loved the title track.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 8 March 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, me too.

The title track is this mournful, fabulous mix of Tom Waits sea shanty and a late Velvets ballad.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

there are some dogs, it is hardly perfect, 'singing in my sleep', 'familiarity breeds contempt', 'oncoming day' are all pretty meh but i am not much for his unconvincing rock side i suppose. no votes for 'i soar'? i'll vote for it though 'part past part fiction' is the best track. the single had the nice version of 'water wolves' on it too.

'sweet times' had it been fleshed out into a real song could have been marvelous, it almost is already.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

nine years pass...

Downloaded this when I first got on Soulseek 15 years ago, played it, filed it, and forgot about it. I grabbed this and some other CDs this morning for a drive up to where I'm moving next month, and three songs--"Tied Up in Chain," "I Soar," and "Effloresce and Deliquesce" were perfect for driving lost in rural Ontario.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 25 October 2019 20:06 (five years ago)

not as good as the early stuff but one of their best albums.

I like all their stuff, but by early stuff I assume you mean singles and what not?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 25 October 2019 20:13 (five years ago)
