Album covers with deserts on them

listening to Stoned & Dethroned and looking at the album cover: a highway in a desert. And I thought: weren't there a bunch of these in the 1990s? I remembered REM's New Adventures in Hi-Fi (pics in another post). Was this "a thing" as I remember it being, or are those the only two big ones of this type?

I would be happy for this to be a list thread OR for it to engender discussion of why this was "a thing", if it was a thing. The Joshua Tree to thread, perhaps?

Desserts are ok too in a pinch.

Due to a brain fart, that's exactly what I was expecting to see when I clicked on the thread.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 11 March 2010 10:09 (fifteen years ago)

haha yeah the line b/w desert and non-desert gets pretty hard to tell on some of these and the ones I've been looking through.

The "great" thing about doing this is that it makes the style look like a cliche or a plug-in effect. Which I guess it is at this point.

Probably one thing relevant is that there's lots of desert within an easy drive of LA.
