eeek

abstaining for now b/c I want to vote for "Wooly Bully" but over "Billie Jean" and "When Doves Cry" and "96 Tears"? And "Yakety Yak"? Too much.

Most important performer of our generation: (Euler), Thursday, 11 March 2010 10:29 (fifteen years ago)

Is anyone going to vote la bamba besides me?

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 11 March 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

54-46 narrowly over Billie Jean

Pete Scholtes, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

My inordinate love for "Wooly Bully" triumphs over my better judgment.

o. nate, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

Tough decision between J5, "96 Tears" and the Pistols.

Religious Embolism (WmC), Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:30 (fifteen years ago)

'I Want You Back' edges it thanks to the-one-who-isn't-Michael's vocal.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:34 (fifteen years ago)

I can't think of very many songs in the world that I would vote for above billie jean

iatee, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

92 1958 Ritchie Valens La Bamba
93 1956 Carl Perkins Blue suede shoes
98 1983 Cyndi Lauper Girls just want to have fun

we call him black Nev coz he's black & his names Neville (HI DERE), Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:52 (fifteen years ago)

all of those except for 'yakety yak' could have won one a previous poll

iatee, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

minus 'one'

iatee, Thursday, 11 March 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

"Anarchy in the U.K." sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly over "54-46 (That's My Number)." Then "Yakety Yak" (although there's much better in The Coasters' oover, e.g., "What About Us").

Did y'all notice that "96 Tears" is #96, yukety yuk? So then"54-46 (That's My Number)" should be upped to 46 or at least 54.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 11 March 2010 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

Whoops, I was thinking of the 1968 Maytals original "54-46 (That's My Number)"; remake pretty great but not better than "I Want You Back," much less "Billie Jean."

Pete Scholtes, Thursday, 11 March 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

1. "Anarchy," 2. "I Want You Back," 3. "Love Is Strange" (thanks in part to Casino). I hope Cyndi Lauper gets a vote or two; "Billie Jean," bleah.

clemenza, Thursday, 11 March 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

I was almost gonna be a weirdo and vote "The Message" over "Anarchy" and "96 Tears" and "House Of The Rising Sun" and "Wooly Bully" and "Billie Jean", but then I decided to go with the Coasters. Whew!

xhuxk, Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait, I mean the Jackson Five. I think.

xhuxk, Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

Nope, Chantays....nope, Mickey And Sylvia. Okay, "Love Is Strange" it is.

xhuxk, Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

"Yakety Yak" has some of my favorite one-liners of all time.

How to Make an American Quit (Abbott), Thursday, 11 March 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

"Cold Sweat."

Please Do Not Swagga Jack Me (Matos W.K.), Thursday, 11 March 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

voted when doves cry, but all these songs are the best

symsymsym, Friday, 12 March 2010 09:34 (fifteen years ago)

Whoops, I was thinking of the 1968 Maytals original "54-46 (That's My Number)"; remake pretty great but not better than "I Want You Back," much less "Billie Jean."

Whoa ok I thought that was a typo above. Didn't know Toots remade it.

And Wiki says this: "A follow-up version released a year later (as "54-46 Was My Number")[2] was one of the first ska songs to receive widespread popularity outside Jamaica and is seen as being one of the defining songs of the reggae genre. It has been anthologized repeatedly and the titles of several reggae anthologies include "54-46" in their title." So the remake was more popular??? That can't be true, right? I've heard the original countless times and on several different anthologies.

The remake is fine, I suppose (scratches head). But then now this is another very easy poll.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

Forgot to vote; probably wrould've elevated JB/Cyndi/J5/Animals/M&S/Chantays to top tier, then rolled a die to choose among 'em. And then cursed myself for forgetting that "I Want You"'s b-side was the live "Tom Thumb's Blues".
